I had a light week only 3 books, but I think that Green Arrow & Black Cannary Wedding Special was by far the best, and what an ending!

I got Countdown, Robin, Green Arrow/Black Canary Wedding Special, and last week's JLA Wedding special (based on Conor's glowing recommendation on the audio show). I also picked up the Phonogram trade.
Impressions forthcoming.

Are you waiting to pick up the Cap omnibus or are you anti-Captain American, Paper?

I thought about it, but I'd already spent way too much money today.

I'm going to get it eventually. The Daredevil Omnibusssessesss are a higher priority though.

my shop got shorted a few Omnibi so I don't get mine until next week. those diamond mother****ers! ;)

I think I like Cap better in the team setting. I've read a couple issues of Cap since the death issue. It's just not something that appeals to me. Maybe because it's so serious. I do want to give it a chance, because I figure knowing the backstory would make me feel that it's important shit that's going down instead of just being told I should think so.

I'm late to the game on this, but the JLA Wedding Special was phenomenal. Definitely my kind of book. I am very excited about this new chapter in JLA.
Leading contender for POW is the GA/BC Wedding special. But it's only the first book I've read from this week.

Sort of a "meh" week. I bought three books released this week, and only the Wedding special exceeded expectations. Robin felt rushed. Countdown was pretty weak.

Reading it from the start makes all the difference, there's only one comic book I like more and it's Criminal.

I went with Cap #30 for my BOW and Cyblade #1 for my SBOW.

With a title like "Cyblade", it's like they wanted to fail.
I'm done with Pilot Season. I bought Cyblade and Ripclaw because I felt bad. I initially thought it was a cool idea and got my cbg to actually order the books so I felt like I had to buy them. I can't do it anymore though. So. ****ing. bad.

I really don't know why I bother with WWH anymore (besides the fact that I pre-ordered them and don't want to screw over my LCS) but eh, at least stuff still gets blowed up.
Wedding Special was, uh, both great and horrible at the same time. Still worth the buy with it's great tongue-in-cheek tone, but I don't think I've seen a book with such a bad case of A.D.D. in a long time. Thank God Amanda Conner is getting work again.
S'all I've read so far. I've got 14 more books to kill. JLA/HITMAN, Ex Machina, and Madman all look great. I've got high hopes for THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY too.

I was a big Cyberforce fan when I was...like...twelve, but I have had zero interest in those characters since then. I am not sure why, but after something like thirty issues I just dropped the book midway through whatever arc was going on. It might have been around that time that I started to read X-Men, but I've never looked back to those Cyberforce comics.

I picked up Dynamo 5 on Ron's podcast recommendation and have been enjoying it ever since. Image is building a good stable with this and Invincible in the ranks.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Green Arrow/Black Canary Wedding issue. It hit all the right beats and kept me entertained and turning pages to see what would happen next. Did not see the final page coming and I'm interested to see how they will explain this.
I got the JLA-Hitman issue and.....I'm not sure. While I enjoyed the concept and plotting of it, a lot the dynamics just didn't ring true. Flash came off as an arse with Green Lantern, and Kyle should have just pushed him out the airlock. Ennis' alleged dislike of superheroes leaks thru the pages and makes me wonder why he did it (besides the paycheck).
Liked Robin a lot. The dialogue about him not becomming Batman was insightful and mirrored in the story. Robin still believes in Dodge's redemption and this optimism is key to his character, in contrast with the dark pessimism of Batman. This is fast becomming my favorite DC title. (I don't remember running across Zatara before - where/when did he come into the picture?)

I was shocked at how much I loved The Umbrella Academy. I think Dark Horse has a special book on their hands. It's like a big bowl of Cartoon Network soup with a dash of Hellboy. Both the writing and art are yummy.
That Green Arrow/Black Canary thing? Er... rather pointless and cliched. I think I've read that same story 852 times. God, I hope they don't join the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. The art was nice and pretty though. As for the 'cliffhanger', what's the point of it if it's obvious that the character isn't going to die? Is it the journey that matters and not the destination? Well, I've already been on that journey before. I want to go somewhere new.
I'm reading World War Hulk and I'm wondering who all these people are in the book. They look like characters I know and love, but they don't act like them. At all. How can there not be a reboot of the entire MU after this? Taken by itself, WWH is a solid okay book, but in the context of the history of the MU, this makes no sense at all. what's next, the Charles Xavier: Serial Rapist Saga? Reboot!

Captain America got a solid 2 thumbs up from me. And even though I am so sick of hearing that the Hulk is madder then he has ever been and you guys sent me away and killed my queen and blah blah blah, WWH #4 was pretty decent Wednesday. Unfortunately though i wasn't able to get Hellblazer this week cuz my story doesn't carry it. How was it????

Take out anyone who has only done two issues or less, and only seven writers have really handled the book for twenty years now. Now that's how you keep a book fresh, IMO. That means that those guys really had to have ideas for the book, not just to show up because it was their time on the ride. Now that the last trade of it is out, I really need to reread the Carey run.

I loved Countdown this week, I thought the art was fantastic for the series and that the whole issue was pretty darn funny.
One thing, I thought the alcohol quest of Suer/Wonder Girl was pretty funny. But there's no freaking way that two 17 year old girls are having to go to a bacholorette party to get booze. That little bit required quite a suspension of disbelief on my part.

he did it to get the Hitman name out there again, he's said numerous times that he wants the trades to be printed again.
I didn't think it was a bad issue but it was full of Ennis clichιs. Never having read Hitman before, this came off like one of Ennis' Kev/Authority issues.

goddamn was this ever a shitty weak for comics. sorry to be so negative but after last week, this week was an ENORMOUS disappointment. QUICK REVIEWS!
JLA/Hitman: C, fun but not worth the price
The Flash #232 : D+ the story was boring and i don't like the direction the book is going-- dropped
Countdown 32 : B a welcome improvement, it was a fun book this week, i liked the bacholorette stuff, the rogues storyline was horrible though, it felt like an abbott and costello routine. Jimmy Olsen was (surprise surprise) really bland. The Challengers stuff was pointless and was basically only there for cameos (Soviet Superman, Crime Syndicate). The Mary Marvel stuff was good, but we all knew it was coming. Still, it's better than it's been so i hope it keeps it up
Countdown to Mystery : D- i had no idea what was going on in the dr fate portion of the book, the eclipso stuff was okay and i like how it's tying stuff in countdown together but shouldn't this be done in the Countdown series? I guess these Countdown minis are going to be 2 stories a piece, one shitty one good. too bad the good one wasn't interesting enough to keep me on-- dropped
Robin #166: C- i really don't understand all the love for this book, i've heard it's DC equivalent to Ultimate Spider-Man but i don't understand that comparison, USM is SOOOO much better. I gave this book a shot and it's just not for me-- Dropped
Tales of the Sinestro Corps- Paralax : B This was a good story, albeit unnecessary. it helped tide me over until the next issue of GL. it had some good insight into Kyle's character that i enjoyed and i'll be checking out the rest of these one-shots
Captain America #30: A+ POW Brubaker keeps knocking it out of the park with this book. the reveals and cliffhangers come at a mile a minute and he still proves that he has Captain America's voice down (even now that he's dead) with that pitch perfect letter. Brubaker is the man!
World War Hulk #4: C This series is still on??!?! please end, im sick of you.... oh well there's only one more issue left... this was pure filler and nothing else. It probably meant a lot more to the people who read Planet Hulk, but that's not me. Im sick of this "event" and i want it over with.
That's all for me. As you can see i was very disappointed this week, i even dropped three books. Bring on next week!

You guys gotta keep in mind, despite all the stupid stuff Dodge did; he really wanted to be a hero all along. That Doge got himself in over his head shows he wasn't "ready" yet. Dodge redeems himself through sacrifice at the end.
Tim realizes that at the end and refuses to give up on Dodge. I liked that stepping up to be a hero stuff.

This issue was worth it solely for the moment with Batman and Tim having a conversation about playing Tennis. I also loved the fact that Tim had to find something he was bad at, and having trouble with.

It has been a while since I read a decent Tim Drake story. Not since Young Justice. I don't mean to say there haven't been any good stories written since then, but just that he doesn't appear in anything I buy regularly. I've always liked the character, which has me thinking what the future holds for him. Will he be a Nightwing or a Batman? I think it was early in Young Justice where he said all he ever wanted was to be a good Robin and that he wasn't interested in an adult superhero life. Is he still written along those lines? I always thought he would grow into some sort of Oracle-like role, where he serves the cause, but doesn't necessarily put on a costume to do it.

if that's true i might pick up the next issue solely because it's his last.
Also- the Batman/Robin dynamic is the only thing i really enjoyed in the book, it was something you don't find in the regular Bat books and it's a great way to see Batman's more human side

Yeah, a smiling Bats is always a little unsettling. However this seems like a more extreme example than most other instances. I think it is because that panel before sports a particularly frumpy Batman. Look at that scowl, man. You're talking to Robin, Bats. Not some crack dealing pimp that just mugged an old lady.

Batman was pretty happy and smiling when the asshole in him was cut out during 52. I remember people being similarly creeped out by a smiling Batman at the time.
Lesson learned, Batman should not smile. Ever.

I just finished reading Strangers in Paradise pocket book 6 and I'm just sitting here stunned at how amazing that book was from start to finish. One of the finest books that I've ever read, period. Not just in comics. Terry Moore had those characters dialed in from the first issue, what 13 years ago? It was truly incredible. I'm almost afraid to pick up the next trade on the stack because anything after that will definitely be a let down.

Here, here.
An impressive run despite some awkward plotting at times. Moore drew his ass off on that series.
Some day a large print of this will be framed in my study...

That's awesome! I think that's one thing that I miss by reading the pocket book editions, no covers.:(

Moore did a three part series of them. To wit...

The prospect of Moore drawing a Supergirl run sent my heart aflutter.

Oh whew. Thought it was just my work computer acting screwy.
World War Hulk #4: C This series is still on??!?! It probably meant a lot more to the people who read Planet Hulk, but that's not me.
Nope.
I read Planet Hulk, and initially was onboard for all the WWH shenanigans, but the only tie-in that is worth anything is Heroes for Hire, which, granted, has it's problems, (mainly the two stories an issue format) but at least it's addressing the rest of the warbound in a more interesting way than "the Hulk is great, were gonna follow him, you earthers are stupid".
Actually, maybe I should support this book more, cause I'm really enjoying the main HFH storyline alot (there's a "paladin" backup). I've read nothing before WWH but I'll probably see what comes next in this series.
Meik and the Brood queen are great characters, with so much potential as villains my hope was that they'd get there.
You're right though, this one was filler. Even the art was weak. Still, I gotta see this out...

I didn't get too much this week, but in the end shockingly New X-men was my book of the week and Countdown was my crap book of the week.

What a delightful surprise for a POW.
I also really enjoyed New X-men this week. The panels with Pixies being chased by Wolverine with great. Santo being tricked into combusting was great too. Ha, I love these kids.

That Santos bit was fun too! Glad to see someone else out there is reading it too

I loved the most recent issue of New X-Men as well.
What did you guys think of the Magik storyline? I never really read a Belasco/Magik story so I felt a bit left out.

I liked the Magik arc up until the end. For one thing, it seemed to be wrapped too quickly and I really didn't understand what exactly happened at the end. It was sorta confusing.

I liked it, but was REALLY confused at times not knowing much about Magik. It kind of wrapped up really quickly.

Page of the week.
I really like that the Purifiers are back. From the perspective of the kids, as outsiders, a group dedicated to killing them for being "freaks" would be quite scary. It works on both levels.

This past issue was probably the best jumping on point. It was a standalone issue that pretty much gives all the X-kids an introduction.

Wolverine is such a great character with a lot of room for humor, yet I don't think many writers get how to make him funny.
Remember Civil War #2 when he walks in to the X mansion media room with a "hell's happening now?" classic
