OK so My hard drive every so often goes inaccessible, with the HDD light gone solid. Does any one know what is happening? remember, my computer is not freezing, just access to the hard drive. I have tried HD tune and finding W7 drivers but Sony doesn't support any of its old computers for Windows 7. I 'm continuing this problem here since my other thread is about something else.
Specs: Model: Sony VAIO VGN-120E CPU: 1.47GHz Pentium Dual Core RAM: 2GB HDD: 160GB Origoanl OS: Windows Vista Home Premium Help Needed, have tried everything! ![]()

The hard disk could be dying, backup!
You could trying running scan disk with the option for checking the surface of the disk for defects, or you could try some thing like spinrite.

I don't think it's dying. it never was like this in Vista.

The hard drive wasn't dying when running vista. Thought it is possible it's some thing else, but a unresponsive hard drive screams "hard disk is dying".

With some of my research i think it is the incompatibility of W7 with the HDD controller. this was never a problem in the Beta or RC either.

You could try installing the Vista chipset drivers and see what happens. Vista drivers will work in Windows 7.

Tried it, no luck. But it was after all the other drivers, I'm wondering if that would affect it.

if you have added any memory lately, make sure the specs are right. also clean the contacts on the memory and reseat. You also need to look and see what processes are running when the system locks up. Added any new software lately?

His system is not locking up. The hard drive is going in to some sort of extreme activity that makes it inaccessible for a time.
