I was in college in the early 90's and needed something to write papers with. I had a circa-1986 non-hard drive Tandy 1000HX (8088 cpu), but it was painful to use, and I got tired of going to the college computer lab.
I answered an ad in the local Thrifty Nickel and bought a Macintosh Plus 2/20 (2mb RAM, 20 mb HD) for, I think, $250. What a difference. Word processing nirvana. Then I bought a Mac LCII a year or so later and gave the Plus to a friend. |

I used Macs throughout most of all of my school. It wasn't until high school that we used PC's (I did at home of course). The first Apple computers I used was the Macintosh Classic. I believe we also used an Apple II every now and then (not very often, we only used this one math program on it).
In elementary school, I was actually the "Computer Helper" for my school. This is going to sound really nerdy, but every morning I would come into school early to set up all the computers in the Mac lab. That and I helped my classmates with their computer problems. At the end of the day, I would clean all of the screens. Come to think of it, I was sort of the computer lab teachers bitch. What most kids would normally do for detention, I did for fun I guess. haha I didn't actually own my own Mac until 2006 though. Every computer I personally owned prior to that were PC's. My first PC was running Windows 3.1

My first ever experience with a computer of any kind was in the late 1970's in first grade -- Apple IIe. The school had a computer lab full of them, and we played math/spelling games on them.
In middle school, the computer writing lab had a lot of the original Mac 128k's/512k's as well as the IIc which was a great looking machine. In high school, they had some Plus's and SE's. |

First one I bought for myself was a IIci + Laserwriter IINTX + multilanguage font HDD. I seem to remember there were proper family cars cheaper than the combo.

It was the Pismo model, the first PowerBook to have FireWire. 400MHz PPC G3 ATI with 8MB VRAM, and a DVD drive. It was an amazing laptop and the dual battery bays where great. 8 hours easy.
