A way to remotely connect to Ipad??

We are trying to use the iPAD as a kiosk check-in station at our company and require the ability to remote into it as well for troubleshooting. I have been looking but haven't seen any apps available that do this... Sure there are ways to use RDP to connect to other machines but no way to connect to the iPAD.

Surely there has to be some way??? Any help offered is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance =)

Yes, unfortunately that guide is out of date as 4.2.1 is currently out and as far as I know you are unable to downgrade to 3.2.1. =(

What sort of troubleshooting are you thinking?

That SSH trick will let you access the iPad like a HDD ... but then what??

Is the check in program an iPad app or a web based solution being accessed via Safari?

What I would like to be able to do is have access to the actual iPAD desktop so that if something goes wrong I can fix it without the end user having to do anything. We have these iPADs locked in a steel casing and they wont have access to the home button.

There is no VNC/Remote Desktop type functionality INTO the iPad. It can be used to remote terminal/desktop/VNC into other systems, but the reverse is not true.

The iPad is pretty fool proof. If something goes wrong, then powering down (not just putting it to sleep) and backup is all you normally need to do to correct the situation.

Dont over think it.

(FWIW - I am an iPad developer and have access to a number of tools that most people don't ... and remote desktop isn't one of them)

Btw - the veency solution mentioned in your other thread is only half a solution. It does not handle gestures very well, has poor translation of mouse to pointer on the iPad and does require Jail breaking the iPad ... Which could get you into trouble from a corporate legal perspective (which is why I didn't mention it).

Nope, but I've seen (positive) reviews and it looks like a great solution. Thought about loading it up so my wife could access her research servers remotely while we were travelling, but the need passed. Since I don't have a need personally, I didn't purchase it (and I am not a packrat that likes to install everything "just in case" ... beauty of the 3G iPad ... if I need it, I can grab it online).
