I can see there has be a huge shift in the approach of Rev3 and Rev3 Show Forums.
It was bad enough that the show hosts would openly comment about how they have been reading the posts ON YOUTUBE, while completely ignoring the dedicated forum posters at Rev3 at the show site (I'm looking at you Destructoid). However, now the forum threads are 5 to 6 episodes behind the current shows. Sure I could start the thread, but not to long ago, Rev3 was very specific on how the Episode threads needed to be started. So my question is WHY BOTHER... why come to Rev3 and generate any revenue for them from the ad sponsors... why not just watch on Youtube and post there where we know the show hosts are watching?? |

Revision3 have moved to a Disqus based comment system for episodes.
http://revision3.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39304 (post is Tekzilla based, but applies to all the shows) Comments and discussion on episodes now happens on the shows download/stream page. I am not gong to comment eitherway on whether this is good or bad ... but it does favour people who stream over people who download and watch offline.

Gotta say... TOTAL fail for Rev 3... UR a SF co. in the bubble right? To you.. everybody has (unlimited) broadband.. and HD tvs.. and HTPCs or wifi Gaming Consoles.. Iphones or Ipads. For a company that saw the early draw of internet programming.. I find it astonishing that you wouldnt buy a $250 Dell pc to do your re-encodes into small wmv format for viewing in a window while (us geeks) do our OCD thing of surfing the web, checking email and perhaps playing a game of solitaire while our D/L finishes (cant play an MMORPG while D/Ling or get lag). My enthusiasm and viewing has been reduced w/ the changes to Youtube-style shortform content... and my interaction, and connection to shows, has been reduced w/ these changes, Maybe take a clue w/ the Digg change... and decline.. and realize that if it aint broke.. dont break it Last edited by hellhound : 03-24-2011 at 11:08 PM. |

Token and Hellhound, thank you for the discussion, and the information. I see now, I just never scrolled far enough down on the page. Perhaps they are not expecting 100's of replies for each episode.
I do have limited time, and it was Rev3's design that just killed the competition. Unfortunately, all the past changes and show choices, have allowed TwiT to close the gap. With a few Ustreams and Justin.tv live feeds, I am spending less and less time here. Last edited by ksboyintx : 03-25-2011 at 02:25 PM. |

With the new individual show forums, am I correct in thinking that I have to go to the show, and click on the episode; just to view posts and responses?
The reason that I ask, is that I want to see what other Revision 3 members are saying about each Epic Meal Time episode. However, the show does not suit my taste.....see what I did there. I would hate to think; that to view what my peers are saying, I would need to actually click on the episode and give a positive count number to the number of views when Revision 3 needs to make a decision on renewing the series. I ask, if I am told that I am "in the bathtub staring at my fathers [junk]" why would I ever want to give support to that garbage. |

ksboyintx and hellhound: thanks for your feedback! I have a couple things I'd like to clarify about why the new commenting system on actual episode pages seems worse or harder to use to you.
1. The point about them being far down and relatively hard to notice was completely on-point. We've added a large green "comment" button at the top of episode pages to scroll down to the beginning of the new Disqus thread. 2. If you're using a feed reader, the trackback link from your feed items has always been to the episode page, not the forum page -- we were under the impression that putting our new commenting system on episode pages directly would make participating in discussion easier for this reason, not harder. There is/was no automatic link from any external feeds to the old Forum-specific episode discussion threads (they were linked from the episode pages). So in theory, we've removed a click (or more) for most viewers. Is this not the case for you? I sincerely hope that this doesn't negatively impact use of the forums in general; rather, the hope was to make episode-specific discussion more robust, while continuing to use the forums for non-episode-specific (or even non-show-specific) discussions.

I do thank you for the explanation and the button!!
Upon doing some research, I was foolish to think that my few hits would actually make a difference in the number of positive views Epic Meal Time posted to Rev3 management. ......way wrong...... With the hit count they receive, I will not have problem clicking the episode button just to get to the comments for that entry, even though the show is really not for me! ahh ... America, you never fail to amaze me (did I not learn anything from JD' World?) Last edited by ksboyintx : 05-06-2011 at 12:24 PM. |
