I'll start things off:
Are all downloads from iTunes now in the higher res h.264 format? Any free programs that will allow me to encode to that format? I have one but it does only mp4 at the old res.

Or you can use x264 with mencoder. It's complicated as hell but it's free. |

I'm using Mainconcepts H.264 Encoder Plugin for the Mainconcept Mpeg Encoding Software and it's pretty fast and very good. You may want to check out the x264 project though.

Awesome. I shall look into this.
Will I notice a difference when watching videos on my ipod though? If not, then I guess there's no point in wasting time converting videos. ![]()

No, i dont think youll notice a difference on current gen ipods. However maybe the file size is smaller? Not sure. Try the same clip in both formats and see for yourself.

h.264 is generally a smaller file size, but not enough to make any difference on a video iPod. And I doubt it will look much/any better on your iPod in a different format. It should look better on your computer and be smaller, but it won't make a difference when it comes to your iPod.
