Default upgrading from an AMD 9500 to a phenom II 955

A wile back my friend gave me his old AMD 9500 and its been running ok, but I am thinking of upgrading to the phenom II 955. My mobo supports AM3 and I will order 8gigs of DDR3. My main uses are for Maya, Zbrush and 3dsmax with the occasional game. So will there be much of a speed difference between the processors.

Look on the benchmarking sites, such as tomshardware, select the applications you're interested in, and boom there's your answer.

Here's one for 3ds max, http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2...dx32,1380.html

The 965 will be even quicker if you can strecth.

A similar question came up somewhere and made me think of this question, anyway your RAM. It's usually not great value buying RAM in one unit. You want 8GB in DDR3? Usually it's sold in threes at the cheapest, you should just go for 6GB, Then when it's cheaper boost it up, but if you need it for bragging right or w/e get 12GB. Unless you're limited to slots in which case I would just use 6, until it's dirt cheap to stick another 2 in. I find it hard to believe with the apps you're using you would need the extra, maybe I'm wrong but doubt you would be asking this question if you really needed that memory.
