Default Looking for a Wifi analyzer tool.

Hey guys, im looking for another tool for work. This time i want to check wifi signal.

Basically i wasnt to be able to go into a room where a PC is and see if there is something interfering with the connection. I know there is Channelyzer, but the adapter ranges from 300-600 bucks if i remember right. I would really like to get the cost down, cause its for work and wont really be helping me make money at this job, just make like easier.

Anyway, any suggestions would be great. Thnx again!

If you've got a laptop with wifi you can use, check out Metageek's free program inssider. It won't tell you if a microwave oven is interfering with your wifi, but it will tell you what channels are in use in the area, how many machines are on each channel, their signal strength, etc.

Until a few weeks ago there was a similar tool for the iPhone/iPod Touch called, appropriately enough, "WiFi Analyzer" that did pretty much the same thing as inssider. But then His Holiness Saint Steve the First did decree from on high that because of his wisdom we mere pee-ons do not need such tools, and WiFi Analyzer and its kin were removed from the App Store. It thus brings me great joy that I had bought it before Lord DoucheBag put his head up his butt.

Hak5 did an episode where they discussed using inSSIDer with Chanalizer to see if anything is around your wifi that could be interfering with it's signal.

Hak5 Episode 604: WiFi Network Scanners and Windows VPN services

You do need a Wi-Spy to use Chanalizer which will set ya back around $99 US but if all you want is to see other networks and what channels they are on inSSIDer should work.

Hak5 has a ton of good information on network security and hacking network security if you havent given them a look. Might get better help in their forums for what your doing as well.
