Default blue-ray vs HD DVD player

I need help with what to choose.
I have a Panasonic 32 inch 720p LCD HDTV.
Between the 2, which player would look best with the tv I have.
If anyone has either of them, how is the look on the standard dvds?
I know both upconvert them, so which one looks better?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I am avoiding the issue for the moment. The format wars wont last too long, and I think it might diverge to be one for data, and one for video ...

For the moment though, there aren't that many moview released in the HD DVD or BluRay format, and until there are more titles released its just not worth the expense of buying a player.

As an interim, get an upconverting DVD player with HDMI output. These can be picked up in the $100 range (plus the ****ing $40 for an HDMI cable, and the $25 for an optical audio cable). I went for the Samsung DVD-HD850 and it has been great. As mentioned in the reviews, upconversion is mainly hype, but the digital image transfer is great.

I have the same upscaling DVD player that Token does. I also have the XBOX 360 HD-DVD player. My main display is a 42 inch 720P DLP rear projection TV. Anyhow, I DO notice a difference between the 720P HD-DVD and the upscaled DVD. However, there isn't enough of a difference to justify the purchase of a $600-$1,200 device. In addition, why don't you browse the available titles and see what is actually out there on each format... not much.

If you have a XBOX 360 and a spare $200, I'd recommend the HD-DVD drive for it. However, I wouldn't buy a stand-alone player at this time. You'll end up spending a lot of cash and staring at an empty device. In a year, when the picture is clear and there is a obvious front-runner and players for less that $300. That's when I'd do it.

Porno industry chose HD DVD...so go with HD DVD..since like Betamax vs VHS that is what decided who won that format war

It wasn't only that. VHS players were much less expensive since Sony mismarketed the Betamax license.
