Default HDMI communication problems

We have a new TV, Sharp, and AT&T UVERSE. The problem is that connecting the two via HDMI, when they are turned off for more than like 5 or 10 minutes, they do not seem want to communicate when turned back on and the UVERSE receiver must be reset (holding the power button for 10 seconds) Connected via component cables there are no problems.

The HDMI cable is not the problem. I have tried two, both generic. One is brand new, cheap from newegg. The other is one I have had for about 2 years and works just fine with the other receiver and my TV (which is at school) and my computer and either the new family TV or my TV.

Is there are fix that would allow use of HDMI or are we stuck with component. I understand component is capable of HD video however I like the convenience of HDMI.

Apparently this thing has issues with HDMI going back a few years. If you have an older box, call AT&T and get them to send you a new one (I guess).

AT&T came by today, replaced the box, they hooked up the component cables stating it was the only solution...

Could it be the Sharp TV needs a firmware upgrade? Does the TV use some type of "screen saver" or "sleep mode"?

There is some thing wrong with the box's design/implementation. When searching for UVERSE HDMI the first page of results is people complaining that they can't get HDMI working properly on various different TVs. Admittedly some of them are between 3/4 years old, but that wouldn't necessarily mean the problem has been fixed (apparently the AT&T guy confirmed that it is still a problem).

I downloaded the firmware upgrade the first day I was home. The UVERSE box is fully updated from what I can find, and there are no screensavers or powersaving enabled on the TV although that should not matter as the problem occurs upon turning on both the TV and box.

Try finding out who the Original Equipment Manufacturer, OEM, of the box is. Maybe they have a suggestion on their website.
