TI LaunchPad
Do something with TI's new LaunchPad microcontroller. It's a very cheap alternative to the Arduino (only $4.30 with free shipping compared to $35 for the Arduino). I just bought one and I want to see what potential it has.

I have been thinking about getting one of those too. See several texts at the bookstore about the 430.
