I'm sad that Rev3's illustrious DIY show is done... so have needed to search for DIT video instructionals to fill the black hole... I didnt try many (especially the later software only SYSTMs) due to unemployment, disability and lack of transportation to easily get materials... but did start the Arcade box w/ a buddy...
To keep my "handyman" boner I've had to check Youtube... channels I've Subscribed to: Howcast, kipkay (some I'm skeptical about), makemagazine.... DIY also doesnt need to be circuit boards.... can be a DIY shelter. And for DIY survivalists/outdoorsmen: "wildernessoutfitters" (for avg joe w/ a $30 blade and a $150 rifle) and "nutnfancy" (for those that want reviews of $200 field blades and $2000 rifles). http://www.youtube.com/user/Howcast http://www.youtube.com/user/kipkay http://www.youtube.com/user/makemagazine http://www.youtube.com/user/wildernessoutfitters http://www.youtube.com/user/nutnfancy Death of SYSTM... DIY links needs a sticky Last edited by hellhound : 07-13-2009 at 10:13 PM. |

This show forum will be sent to the Archive soon, so posting link like that in here is kinda pointless.
If the links are on topic, post them over in Tekzilla ... but remember, no spamming, and try to keep things at least moving in the direction of being on point. I can't see the connection with survivalist DIY videos though unless you are building a fish trap out of copper wire, or a snare for mutant zombie bunnies out of cat5.

Sorry to say that I forgot his name... but after techtv/rev3 guy that died when he got stuck in the snow in N.Ca mountains.. I always fig'd I could fiddle w/ a cell phone etc and get recued... but then it dawned on me... phones dont work everywhere and govt isnt always there either (Katrina everyone?)... caught a vid on making a shelter in snow and how to 98% purify water using twine, a bandana and a 2 liter jug.... and I was hooked.
So I consider survival situations DIY We got JV's World (ughhh.. my only comment) and other programming (ROFL) that isnt 100% geek oriented... so.... Last edited by hellhound : 07-13-2009 at 11:03 PM. |

FWIW - Everyone should have some basic survival skills ... the sort of thing a boyscout gets a badge for. I was a scout many years ago, and can purify water, navigate without a GPS (or a compass ... even if thats not especially accurate), can tie a sling, do CPR, catch fish (and clean them and cook them over an open fire - or better still roast them in the embers of a fire). My car normally has a tarp, a Leatherman tool, a ball of heavy duty string, and some lightweight rope in it. If I am going any distance, it gets supplemented with my travel kit (purchased at BJs, but still good), and a bottles of water. I mightn't be Les Stroud, but I could survive. BUT, its not really SYSTM - or Tekzilla related.

Rev 3 is not a Tech only site.
"Revision3 is the leading television network for the internet generation. We create and produce all-original episodic community driven programs watched by a super-committed and passionate fan base. Our hyper-connected audience gets the vast majority of its entertainment, information and social connections through the internet. The company was founded in 2005 by technology visionaries Kevin Rose, Jay Adelson, Dan Huard, Ron Gorodetzky, and David Prager, because they couldn't find anything they wanted to watch on traditional television, and is now led by Internet TV pioneer Jim Louderback." So a DIY survival show would fit in just as well as a DIY anything else show. It comes down to fan base. Is there the draw of the show enough to keep it on Rev3... as is stated on Rev3 beta "Content There's no limit to the type or style of shows Revision3 Beta is interested in. Anything will be considered, so long as it is engaging." so you may not be interested in it doesnt mean everyone would dismiss it as well. I know i would love to see a DYI show with out any limits on would they show you from show to show. You never know what you may find use full. Even if you know how to do said project, maybe they have a different way you didnt know about that may even be easier, who knows. Since systm is leaving the scene anyways why not through out a few ideas on their forum for people that liked the show of other things similar. true surviving has nothing to do with say building your own wifi boosters or what have you but if you like to tinker with things anyways maybe tinkering with things that could save your life someday might not be so bad and may fill some of the itch that you will be missing that systm brought. Help systm showed you how to make booze... not exactly comp related .Last edited by willobe : 07-31-2009 at 11:43 AM. |

Actually the same method to make with variations can also yield wine, sodapop, bread, and vinegar. All needed for Geek good eats. Definitely geek related
