Default Blu-Ray & HD Anime?

Is there any way to tell which anime originally aired in HD formats?

I just saw an ad for FMA: Brotherhood, and I know one of my favorite franchises (Full Metal Panic!) had its most recent incarnation available on Blu-Ray. I'm sure there are other examples as well (Evangellion movie remake(s)).

How much of a difference is the average HDTV owner going to notice to the picture / sound by going Blu-Ray? In theory, animation isn't going to be that noticable in making the transition; the same details we'd typically notice in a side-by-side film transition have to have been drawn into the anime frame. Aspect ratio is the one obvious place where HD v. SD is going to be noticable, but I'd be curious to hear what more adept eyes pick up on.

i've seen some anime in both sd and hd on my 1080p monitor and i find that that sd stuff looks soft, almost blurry. Also the lines that are drawn become jagged (aliased?) as it is up-converted. The hd versions looks sharp and crisp.

I agree with this - the more up-converted it is, the worse it looks to my eyes.
