Underexposed "Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin" (1986)

One really really underexposed anime in the US is "Silver fang" (Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin, 1986), this was my first anime and it also really got me, it was even before i knew about anime/manga, I am not a good reteller of the story so read it on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginga:_Nagareboshi_Gin instead.

One of the reason it never got to the states is because the uncut version is rather bloody but it was targeted to a younger audience in japan, here is Sweden it was cut down and dubbed for a younger audience, originally 22(uncut, jap) episodes and cut down to 18 episodes because of all blood and death.

One of the reason it was really popular here in Sweden was it really got a epic story with strong feelings, they really did a good story and they did not dumb it down or hide what happens, as they usually do.

If you have seen the rather bleak sequel "Ginga Densetsu Weed" an liked it, Silver fang (1986) is way better, but a bit old-school.

It was released here in Sweden (and Finland) in a uncut box (proud owner!) in 2003, but i haven't seen any releases for the states.

I feel a bit sad for all Americans that it never was released in the states, because it really is a big loss for the US

If you cant find it you can search youtube "Ginga Nagareboshi Gin Episode 1 Part 1" or something similar, the series isn't even licensed in the US and probably never going to be, so you can find it on bittorrent from http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/350.html that only deals with unlicensed fan-subbed anime.

Hope it get picked up by AnimeTV and get more expousure in the states.

I'm glad someone else here is a fan, It was an amazing show back in the day. ROY IF YOU ARE THERE, please check it out. It really deserves a review.

Edit: I finished watching Ginga Densetsu Weed a couple weeks ago. I agree, the original was way better. The new one felt way too... well new. It was way too much like other animes today. The music, emotion, even the animation (though simplistic, yet respectable for its age) was a lot better in the original.

I'm slightly unsure why this thread was made when there was already a thread for this exact anime, and it's still on the front page no less. Maybe the mods can combine them or something?

One reason is because I really wanted to promote it for Underexposed, second reason was because I didn't see jonttupal tread when I wrote my tread, I can be a bit blind sometimes

I have bin rewatching Weed just because to see what it was for me to like Silver Fang more, and have come to the conclusion that some of its about the antagonist Hougen vs. Akakabuto, Hougen doesn't cut it, Akakabuto is way greater as an antagonist.
And Weed is more like Gin to the end of Silver Fang, Weed don't have the same growth as Gin.
It all feels a bit dumbed down in Ginga Legend Weed.
But I still enjoyed Weed as an Anime, but it doesnt compare to Silver Fang.


But I still think it will be a really good underexposed anime in AnimeTV
