Hello!
I do not know how active this board is. But I suspect this subject will make it a lot more active then it has been previously. My situation is thus. On a board that I visited occasionally, a new artist popped up with a question. He was going to use a certain palette that another artist had created. He asked, if he had to give that other artist, part credit for using the same colors that that particular artist used. Someone else had already said, yes, they should. Because that other artist spent the x amount of time figuring out a sorting those specific colors, those are HIS colors now and everyone who uses them MUST give HIM part credit for ANYTHING. I simply argued, no, no one one's one particular set of colors no more then anyone else does. The argument thus exploded. I basicaly lost becuase the entire argument on the other side was this: I SPENT OVER x/15+ HOURS MAKING THOSE SPECIFIC COLORS!!!##@#!!! HOW DARE YOU JUST USE THEM WILLY NILLY!!!!! THOSE ARE MY COLORS!!! YOU CAN"T USE THEM FOR ANYTHING ELSE UNLESS YOU GIVE ME ME ME ME PART CREDIT!!!!! THOSE ARE MINE, MINE, I TELL YOU!!!!! MINE MINE MINE MINE!!!!!!!11111!!! I have since stepped away. So, my request is simply this. What are your thoughts on the subject? |

No one owns color sets. That person may have spent time putting it together and should be acknowledged for it, but they OWN nothing.

Some guy with a copy of photoshop? Give me a break ...
If his name was Pantone, Martha Stewart, or Ralph Lauren he might have a chance.

That's ridiculous. No one owns a palette.
It's akin to people who rip sprite graphics out of video game ROM files and put a big notice on the resulting image, "YOU MUST GIVE ME CREDIT IF YOU USE THESE IMAGES! I SPENT X AMOUNT OF HOURS RIPPING THESE SPRITES AND THOUGH THEY AREN'T MINE THEY'RE MINE!" The entire notion is ridiculous. You can choose out of the goodness of your heart to give them credit, but you are under no obligation by the law or otherwise to. |
