Default Mac games

My brother wants to know if there are any good games for the mac besides the on-line variety.

You don't have the number of options you do on a PC, but there are still quite a few. If he doesn't want online games he should buy a cheaper Mac and a game system like a PS3.

A lot of my friends have been playing Starcraft 2 on their Macs. It seems to me that more games are becoming available on OS X.

Osmos and Peggle are good casual games on Steam for Mac. Plants Vs. Zombies is good too. Can't go wrong with the Valve/Source first-person shooter games like Counter Strike, Day of Defeat (World War II), The Orange Box (Team Fortress 2, Portal, Half-Life 2). Portal is the type of game that will make non-gamers want to play, but don't buy Portal alone because it's $20, you can get the entire Orange Box for $10 more that includes Portal.

I've been addicted to plants vs zombies for a while now.

Check out steam on osx which has a nice list of games. Also, I believe all blizzard based games, id games, and valve games work on OSX. blizzard does like wow and starcraft and warcraft... id does like doom and quake style stuff and valve does fps stuff like portal and team fortress 2.

I know he's probably heard this already, but if he's really serious about some games on the Mac, he should think about buying Windows 7 and running a BootCamp partition. He'll have tons more gaming choices that way.

I game on BootCamp and even though my MacBook Pro's video card isn't up to par with today's video cards it still is decent enough to get by. I ran MW2 really nice on it, no lag. Oblivion ran well too. The games are still gorgeous enough on Average video setting (1440x900).

Just a suggestion, I apologize if you already heard it though.
