Default Dead Acer Ferrari F20 Monitor? Suggestions?

Hello,

I absolutely love my Acer Ferrari F20 20" widescreen monitor. For the past few weeks the monitor would just power off. After a few seconds it would come back. I checked all the cables and wiring to make sure it was not something loose. During the weekend I believe it finally died. It did come back for a few hours. I have had this monitor since WOW was in Beta. It was about $1100 but it went on sale at the time for 899 so i bought it. I certainly got my money out of it. And its always a big hit at LAN Parties. At the time most people were still running CRT monitors or a few people had switched over to 17" LCDs.

I was going to try and fix the monitor, but i don't really know if i can resolve a power issue. Or at least it seems like a power issue. I am not really good at electronics.

My other thought was to simple replace the LCD with a modern ACER LCD screen and simply house it in the gorgeous Ferrari casing. I am not sure if anyone has ever attempted this before. Most people just toss away monitors and get a new one. I could do basic soldering of the

It just seems like a total waste to not use the Ferrari casing to house another 20" screen.

Ideas? comments?

Maybe this could be a cool project for the show, if he is willing to send me the monitor back after its retro-fitted with a new screen

i know theirs a lot of lcds that have problems with capacitor failures on the psu may cause this problem. maybe it would be a good idea for the show to teach people how to do a recap go over what to look for to tell if it is the problem, where to get the parts and how to replace them.

V_Tyler, I like that idea too!

It really sucks having my beautiful monitor sitting on the spare parts work bench in my office.
