Had to reboot my PC (XP Media Center bought thru TigerDirect) so figured since it was the 2nd tues of the month... I'd manually start the Windows Update instead of waiting for the scheduling to notify of the updates.
It said I 1st needed to update Genuine Advantage before it showed any critical updates.. so I did. Then it said my product key was invalid (bullshit since has been valid for over a year or so of updates) and pushed the page to a "How to validate your Windows 7" page. ITS NOT WINDOWS 7.. Its XP Media Center! I have a Windows restore point (luckily/hopefully) from yesterday.. maybe that will cancel the faulty Genuine Adv. update/install.. Dont know if Microsoft has decided to do this on purpose.. to force people to update to Win7.. or if its a glitch.. either way.. it sucks. BTW.. ever tried to use the Help for this problem? no number to call.. just an automated "Merry-go-round" which leads you nowhere, gets you frustrated, and drives you to drink. Edit: Scheduled automated update kicked in w/ 2 updates (1 was the Mal Software tool, dont know what the other was). Manual update still gives the "invalid key".. well... guess as long as the auto update still works I'll be fairly OK Last edited by hellhound : 11-09-2011 at 01:56 AM. |

Sounds like you downloaded and tried using a version that's designed for Win7. I'm not sure if that's the way the program is designed.
I remember helping someone with that issue before. Although I don't remember the details too much, I do remember this page. Maybe the link will help you. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932300 |
