Super Low Budget Gear

I am making a move with my high school, but I have to supply my own gear and I have no budget from the school.

My setup as it is now:
Camera: Canon HF 20
Mic: The mic that came with a Nintendo 64 zip tied to a $5 tripod
Lights: Various desk lamps

I am considering getting Harbor Freight work lights and making a diffuser. Thoughts?

I am also trying to find a super cheap way to improve sound quality, are there any good mics available for about $30.

Has anyone used that mic, or any other suggestions?
