I was completely with Jeff on this one. I didn't really care for Vanilla Sky, but almost anything is better than Transformers. I also agreed with him on Gremlins vs Being John Malkovich. Yes, Gremlins was really good, but there's really no contest.

Lol. Jeff seems to be my surrogate on the show. I actually liked Vanilla Sky and don't get all the hate.

Vanilla Sky was not exactly a cinema masterpiece ... and got lost among what was actually a pretty good year (2001) for movies. I suspect if it had been released a year later it might have been better received.

I have a bigger problem with people slamming the Transformer movies. FFS. Giant. Transforming. Robots. If you go in expecting The Godfather, you will be disappointed. Giant. Transforming. Robots. Its all you need to know. Forget childhood Saturday morning cartoons. Giant. Transforming. Robots. It was never destined for greatness.

Giant transforming robots and decent performances and plot aren't mutually exclusive and the fact that the '86 animated Transformers movie trumps any of the Bay movies on both of those scores speaks volumes about Bay's incompetence when it comes to any other than blowing things up.

I didn't like Transformers 1, but I really enjoyed Transformers 2 and the second half of Transformers 3. I don't understand all the hate.

That said, I do miss the old Michael Bay. I absolutely loved Bad Boys and Bad Boys 2, as well as The Rock (one of the most underrated action films of all time).

Because of the fact that all those movies you mentioned have bad acting and horrible plots with little to no substance, or in otherwords, they are badly directed. Just because you make sure things go boom doesn't make you a good director, or, a director at all.

Vanilla Sky had bad acting and a few holes in the directing, but at least it was attempting something with substance.

You can't live on baloney and american cheese forever.
