Is this the first non-skelatal remains we've ever found?
I always think it would be funny if something about it was completely unexpected. Something you couldn't tell from just the skeleton. Like, if it had a giant flesh fin on it's back, or it's fur was neon pink. It's the age old question of: If elephants didn't exist in modern day, and all we had to go on was the fossil remains, would we have any idea of what an elephant actually looked like? The big ears and trunk etc.

No - there have been many preserved remains of mammoths in the siberian area. They got stuck in the peat bogs and preserved in the permafrost. Because of the weight of the beast, mammoths are the most common, but there have been examples of early man, and saber tooth tigers found similarly preserved. Its all very cool.

Maybe we can have the Flintstones opening with real Brontoburgers.
Apparently the DNA differences between the mammoth and the modern indian elephant is minor. IIRC the prediction was that they would be able to clone via genetic manipulation and splicing because they are similar enough, but the created animal would be infertile (Haldane's rule) - much the same way that a Mule (Donkey/Horse hybrid), or Liger are.
