Default Movie: Savages

Sometimes I can embrace Oliver Stone's craziness like in Natural Born Killers. Sometimes his film making is just annoying like in this movie. Overall I liked it, especially Benicio Del Toro and John Travolta's performances, but I hated Blake Lively. I'm not sure if it was her acting or Stone's direction, but she was not an empathetic character, imho. why in the hell would you go to the mall?!

I found Stone's filming distracting. From what I read, I guess he switched film stock during filming. I'm not sure what the point was except to show he could do it. Del Toro and Travolta were excellent. Salma Hayek was good, too.

Overall its worth watching, just not rush out and see.

It does seem like the kind of movie where the director's trying really hard to make it interesting. Kind of like how Tarantino makes sure you know he directed it, but not as well executed. That said, I've only seen the trailer for it, and I still do want to see it, just because it seems quirky enough and the trailer actually does a good job of not showing too much I think.

I think it's Blake's acting. I watched her in Gossip Girl and The Town and she just is never convincing. There's something about her voice that just sounds like she's reading lines when she talks (maybe it's just me who thinks it).

I tempted to see this with clear eyes and a full heart just for Taylor Kitsch, but it's a little low on my list of movies to see right now.

I loved John Carter, but I guess Hollywood only cares about how much money a movie makes.

I guess that was mean of me to say since I haven't seen it. I was actually very excited about it until I heard all the reviews. I'll catch it one of these days.

2nd side a guy the built homes for the people, parks, hospitals, etc

Just saw it, thought it was shit. It felt so contrived in a "oh look, this guy is a super soldier who can make IEDs and kill people in cold blooded and the other guy is a mega genius who drastically revolutionized marijuana in a couple years. and oh look they have all these special forces friends and super hackers and a genius child prodigy banker" kind of way. The villains all seemed like comic characters as well with unnecessary and unexplained quirks, and I never got the intense tension between the two groups that should have been there. Plus, they did the ending twice, and both of them were entirely unsatisfactory.

I liked it a little more than you but you make excellent points. The ending was what really made me not like the movie as much. It was only saved by del Toro & Travolta, for me. I hated the girl & almost wanted to see her tortured. LOL

It's like that football saying "when you have two quarterbacks you really have none." The ending (s) was terrible.
