It's been said repeatedly that Dark Knight Rises is the final part of a trilogy.
Do you think Nolan will have the balls to kill the Batman? |

I really hope not. I think that would almost be a slap to the face.

Yeah, I remember reading some behind the scenes magazine article about costume design in the Dark Knight and they said Nolan's batman mask is the first one with the flexible neck. Crazy. Props to the previous actors for acting/doing action scenes through that awkward restriction.

The neck on the old Batman suits always annoyed me for that reason. How do we beat Batman? Strafe.

How so? I think it could work. The death of Christian Bale's Batman to only be replaced by another Batman. I'm not sure who that'd be. I'm not well versed in Batman lore. It could be an epic finale/beginning...done right. The Dark Knight Rises indeed.

If you've read the comics at all, Bane breaks Batman's back in the "Knightfall" story arc. At first, it's not even clear Batman will ever walk again. Batman then spends the better part of a year healing and rehabilitating and slowly getting back to where he was. Meanwhile, Bane practically owns Gotham City until others inspired by Batman pick up the slack. I think Joseph Gordon Levitt is playing someone in the movie who is inspired by Batman to take up the fight. In the comics, the main guy who filled in for Batman was named Azrael, but I don't expect them to call JLG that in the movie. Anyway, I expect The Dark Knight Rises to follow at least some of the "Knightfall" story arc, but who knows? I think the "Rises" part of the title is literally Batman coming back from his back being broken.

I still prefer the Keaton era...in part because of how different Keaton looked in the suit, not someone you would guess under the cowl. It also doesn't hurt that my main exposure to Batman prior to those movies was the TV show.

The 89 joker design is right out of the comics. I mean the Dark Knight Joker is the least Joker like designs in any of the movie/TV versions. The point of the joker is that his cartoonish nature undercuts his threat. You should be chuckling right up till he bashes your face in with a rusty bit of metal.

There really are sort of two different versions of The Joker. Each movie portrayed them accurately I think. It's just personal taste which one you prefer.
The Dark Knight omitted my favorite thing about the "serious" Joker though. He's suicidal, and he's trying to commit suicide by forcing Batman to kill him, breaking Batman's cardinal rule. Everything he does is in effort to finally push Batman over the edge far enough to make him do it. I realize they couldn't cover that aspect in a 2 hour movie, it comes from a long history between the two and it wouldn't have made sense with the two of them meeting for the first time at the beginning of the movie. |
