In general, you can run most any application and desktop on any distribution. To me the distribution is irrelevant except for two or three. Centos is a clone of the commercial RedHat. Linux from scratch is true to it's name.
Started on Slackware (V14 is about out!!) Grew up on Redhat before it was Fedora. Spend most of my time on Debian based distros. So, many people are using Arch, I might experiment with it. http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg339...ng&res=landing |

Linux? Nope.
BSD variant? Yep. Tastes a little ... fruity. Like an Apple. Spend much of my day in a terminal window.

Debian has a bsd variation. Ironic that bsd and linux share so much to say they are different.

Used, Solaris, Unixware, Openserver, and a host of others. So what? I use bsd also, but not that much. Shame that pic is not up to date. i.e.

Arch is nice, I use it on my laptop once in a while. I like the BSD styled init system it uses, plus everything is well documented. It's my 2nd choice if I wasn't going to use something Debian-based. I've also seen many people switch from Debian and Ubuntu to Arch and seem very happy with it.
I still prefer Debian's package manager and the way packages are broken down. Plus I like that Debian runs on a great variety of architectures, so I have can install it on my Apple G4 and on my Android devices. I've also tried Debian's kFreeBSD. It's alright. I found it to be unstable on my laptop, as hardware support isn't quite as good as Linux. Though last time I tried, there were no official releases yet.
