Best Craig Bond film IMO . . . fantastic. The theme/relation between the plot and the idea of an antiquated spy vs. spy mentality was great. I can't really say much without dropping spoilers . . . predictable in a few ways, but delivered in a way that you don't mind. It's the "reboot" film the first couple set up . . . really, really satisfying and a James Bond movie through & through. Probably my favorite James Bond story alongside On Her Majesty's Secret Service because we learn more about Bond

So I thought it was awesome. I loved how they were able to blend the artsy style with the action and stuff we typically associated with BOND. It was really daring in terms of plot and moving the franchise forward too. Although there was no scene that really floored me or stuck with me, the whole movie was exceptionally solid and well executed at every turn. The music was exciting, the acting was fantastic, the sets were gorgeous, as was the cinematography, and the action was exciting in the moment. I also loved how they integrated so much of a certain theme, and there were some meta moments which were cute as well. Definitely recommend people go see it, especially if you're a BOND fan.

Except for the part where he drinks beer instead of martini. Not only beer, but cheap beer. For shame Bond ppl.

Just watched their review on Bond and was surprised Jeff didn't like it more. I totally agree with him about the "idea" of watching a James Bond movie is usually better than the actual film . . . for the most part. I thought this was one of those rare exceptions though and I'm right there with Alex with how he felt about the nods here and there. I've thought about how great it was a few times since seeing it and this might be the first Bond film I see more than once in the theater, besides Goldeneye.

I think this is one of those rare occasions when Jeff just missed the boat or something. I finally saw Skyfall tonight, and it was freaking awesome. I think it might be the best Bond movie of the past 40 years. (The only other Bond movie that comes close is Casino Royale, and it is a close call.)
First off, hooray for finally getting a decent director. It seems like Bond movies have always had to get by with second-rate directors that nobody has ever heard of probably because the Broccolis would only hire directors who would do exactly what they told them to do. Sam Mendes puts his stamp on Bond in a big way. While he embraces the things that make a Bond movie a Bond movie, Sam Mendes goes above and beyond the formula. And kudos to Sam Mendes for hiring the best cinematographer in the business currently, Roger Deakins. The night fight in Shanghai and the climactic conclusion featured some of the most jaw-dropping cinematography I've ever seen in an action movie. Deakins really outdid himself here. The writing was pretty great. A lot of focus on character and the history of Bond. That stuff all worked marvelously. The only thing that didn't quite work was the portrayal of computer hacking, but that's never portrayed well in movies. If you like Bond at all, this is a must-see. |
