everything washes right off. I've done it with glasses I had recently used before... you just need to wipe clean the place the match head touches.

Hi Brian, I've been watching since episode 1 and I love the show. You are a fantastic host.
I was a little disappointed this week when I figured it out right away, but I was amazed when I showed this episode to my brother (who is always brighter than I am) he could only think of the pushing method. I might actually try this with my friends next time, because if my brother could not figure it out, I doubt my friends would be able to. Unfortunately so far I have yet to get the chance to scam any drinks, because, at the risk of sounding smug, a few of my friends always buy my drinks for me, hoping to get me so drunk that I would show them my boobs or something. (Sadly for them, I would for sure pass out first before I would show them anything :P ) But I still perform the human chimney and the jack-o-lantern sometimes to impress my friends. |

It could be a free drink, it could be the attention of a cutie at the bar, or it could be an icebreaker at an awkward social gathering. The point is: don't just think it's about the drinks... It's about your chance to shift the social dynamic no matter where you are. Glad you're digging the show!

I actually tried this trick out at a party the other night with great success. I'm sure the alcohol factor was in my favor, but I nonetheless managed to scam six people without fail.
![]() One thing I noticed while doing it is that it's much easier (for me at least) if you place the head of the match on the glass you don't move rather than the one you do. Ultimately it comes out to the same thing, but there's less chance that the match falls off accidentally while lifting the glass since it stays stationary. This also makes it easier to carefully put the glasses back into the "armed" position when you're done, a cool way to end it I think.

yes, yes. that makes so much more sense, pulling-it-off wise, but less dramatic, maybe, as a "doh" to the scamee.

Alright, I doubt a thread this old is still followed, but I just saw the episode and before the trick was revealed I had thought of another way to do it.
Brian says you can only touch one glass, but doesn't say anything about the match. If you pick up the glass (the safe) with your the match in between two of your fingers to hold it in place, you could grab the money and very carefully set the glass back down and back to the "armed" state. The match would never lose contact with the glass. |
