I want to get a windows RT to use as a second computer(instead of only being in one room while online). But all these rt tablet are too expensive.
So, I was thinking of buying a touch convertible netbook. And put windows 8 on that(or, do they sell rt buy itself?). What's the best touchscreen netbook. I want it to be between $200-$350. I don't card about any cameras. 2-3lbs. the lighter, the better. Min. 1366x768. at least 100gb hdd. at least 2 gb ram (4gb will be better, to run smoothly). And how well will Windows 8 be running on an atom? |

That didn't answer any of my questions.
It also has to have a built-in keyboard. That's why I want a netbook, and not specifically a tablet only. Last edited by thegreatone : 11-17-2012 at 03:04 PM. |

Windows RT is only for ARM based devices and it's only provided pre-installed!
For anything else though you can just install regular Windows 8/Pro... Modern UI just requires a minimum of 1024x768 to work and 1366x768 minimum for all the features like Snap to work. Other than that, just verify that the hardware has Windows 8 drivers for things like the touch pad, etc. It's preferable to get a new system with Windows 8 pre-installed because then you'll know the hardware and its drivers are up to date. A possible cheap solution would be to get a Acer Chromebook C7, $200... And put it in developer mode to install Windows on it. It has a 320GB HDD, so it has the room for a full OS install. Or get one of those 11.6" low cost Pentium or Celeron based laptops or even a AMD E-350/450 if you don't need it for anything serious. Windows upgrade promotional sales price should still be in effect, so getting a system with Windows 7 should be an option too. |
