Don't you think it would be distracting switching between 24 and 48 within a movie? I know it's different but I hate when a movie cuts between IMAX and regular aspect ratio because of the damn black bars that magically appear and disappear. It takes me so out of the movie.

Wouldn't it be more like a film switching between film and digital based on the drama/action of the scene, or set and CGI, etc? Having not seen 48 (and not having a film eye), I can't say either way, but I could see a good director using things like that at times to add emphasis. My question would be if that were a possibility...I imagine you'd need either 2 projectors or double up the 24fps part, or you'd have a section that got weird as the speed changed.

I'd just double the frames recorded at 24fps. In theory, it should look exactly the same as watching 24fps, but it would be 48fps. The whole movie would still be projected at 48fps. I think it would be an interesting experiment.
