One of my all time heroes, Gerry Anderson, passed away at the age of 83 yesterday. I wrote a little obit, and Geekscape were kind enough to post it for me.

Space: 1999 is one of the first sci-fi TV shows I remember watching. I've been meaning to watch U.F.O., which predated me slightly.

Sorry, I had to do an archeological dig to find this post underneath a myriad of advertisements... anyhoo, UFO is more comedy than anything. The people that hold the rights to this show are intent on milking it because the cost on them is hugely insane. I suggest doing what I did and go in with a bunch of people to buy the complete set.. or find an alternate route to do the same thing. U.F.O. didn't have the half decent stories that Space 1999 had. U.F.O. is all about the awesome vehicles and effects that were way ahead of their time in either film or television. The effects are worth seeing, but the story lines just make me cringe some times. Still, it's so hilarious to see everyone in the show including the physician smoking every chance they get... it was a different time.

I don't know what that spaceship is from but I have a tiny die-cast version of it.
