Angry An Open Message to Revision3 from a Forum Moderator

I've tried communicating via the forums but noone is listening.

UPGRADE the forum software.
BLOCK IP address ranges where the spam is coming from.
INSTALL a blacklist IP/User checker.

But above all, fix the damn thing.

Show you care. The community built the company. No community, no support, no Rev3.
Fix it.

If I charged my consulting time for the hours I have spent – with the limited moderator access I have – cleaning up the forums of spam and banning the users (not IP addresses which is what really needs to happen), I would be send Rev3 a sizable bill (@ $150-200/hour). I realize that therein lies the problem, by me spending my time cleaning up the mess in your backyard, you don't need to do anything.

Check the forums out today.

I am fucking done with it.

Until you show you care, I don't.

Regards,
"TokenUser" – Moderator since Day 1 and pissed.

[ BTW - I don't like airing the dirty laundry in public, and you'll notice I had to make this sticky, otherwise it would be buried under the spam ]

Glad that you have publicly called out the powers that be. There needs to be a major change in the forums, and I am hoping that this will help to spark that change! You obviously know the back end of the forums better than myself, but I can't imagine that there is no way for the IT team at Rev3/Disco to get this done. If given access, I am sure a few of us that are still left could install and configure a forums overnight.

The software just needs upgrading and some admins to be around. We can handle the admin stuff, but the forum took a backseat when a couple people moved on, and with the whole Twitter/Disqus thing happening. With luck something should happen soon.

Like they've done anything with the forums AT ALL in years.

It took you way too long to figure it out, tokenuser, but I'm glad you finally saw it.

Ever since they upgraded this forum from the old white one to this black-and-green one all those years ago, activity on here dropped like a pancake.

Let's not forget all the other problems with this site. The schedule page listing shows long after they're cancelled. (Why is Diggnation STILL on there? It's been a year; take it off and save some page space already!) Forums not being deleted or moved to the archives after their time on here is spent. Shows being unanimously cancelled without prior announcement, only to vaguely announce a "return from hiatus" which never happens. Original, quality programming being cancelled in favor of shallow YouTube vloggers and partners... (Phil DeFranco, you guys? Seriously?)

Rev3 is long past the point of broken. It's too late to save it. I learned that hard lesson a long time ago.

We have a staff forum where things have been discussed long ago. We know.

I would appreciate some big changes as well - I am new to the forum and a bit disappointed to be honest...since all the threads have really interesting topics and people round here seem nice...

Do you have a mass spam deletion tool?

They don't care. If you don't like it move on.
