I posted something like this elsewhere but got little to no help. This being a forum of intelligent (for once) people who actually know a thing or two about movies, I thought today, to start this here.
I like movies. I don't like them nearly as much as TV shows, but I like them. I like them less than TV because everything's so final with them. I can't name how many movies I'd like to have seen drawn further out, as in TV, so that I can get to know the characters, be with them for longer. Develop favorite ones, then decide they're stupid and love someone else, that's why I love TV. Umm, okay, that was a mini-rant. Pay no attention. My point was that I have a backlog of movies to watch that have been obtained from various VARIOUS people who INSIST I'll love them to varying degrees. Some of these, I don't even know what the heck they are about in the first place, some I should have watched a long time ago (I didn't watch the Goonies until sometime in the last year or so, stuff just flies past me I suppose). Thing is I can't even pick one to watch because I don't even know where to start with them, and until I watch them, I have promised not to resubscribe to Netflix, because the movies will just sit there and sit there. So, my thought was that I would post the list and that slowly but surely I would knock them off my list, with the help of you guys! So pick one title off of my list that you think I should watch (I've seen none of these), and why (if you feel like it). Use any criteria you wish. I will choose a movie you guys picked, then report back what I thought (briefly) of each movie after I watch them, and remove them from the list until it's all gone. Coolio? Alright, list ahoy! Behind the Mask: The Leslie Vernon Story Big Trouble In Little China Can't Buy Me Love Cashback Children of Men Clash of the Titans Cry Baby Cyber Wars Date With An Angel Dazed and Confused Death Warrant Devil's Advocate Don't Be A Menace... Edison Force Elizabethtown Employee of the Month (the one withOUT Dane Cook) Fast Times At Ridgemont High Fletch Gladiator Goodfellas Halloweentown 1 & 2 Hard Target In the Land of Women Interstate 60 May Nighthawks People Under the Stairs Real Genius Searching For Bobby Fischer SLC Punk the Sting Sunshine The Fountain The Girl From Monday The Grifters The Lookout The Quiet The Tao of Steve Tideland Trainspotting the TV Set Universal Soldier the Usual Suspects When Harry Met Sally Who Is Cletis Tout Wild Hogs Zodiac

After you watch Big Trouble in Little China (hilarious). I vote for Real Genius. Its a great 80's, just for the fun of it movie. Make sure you have enough popcorn to last until the end.

Not in my list, but nevertheless I was coaxed into watching Hitman today. Briefly, it wasn't good. I get tired of romantic interests being casually dropped into every movie, ever. Not everyone gets a romantic interest, deal with it.
Also, this wasn't the Hitman I know. I haven't played a lot of the games, usually just the first mission. How does it go? Stealth, stealth, stealth, stealth, stealth, stealth, stealth, stealth, stealth, kill, GTFO. 47 doesn't do well in huge gunfights, in my experience with the games, so it was disappointing to see that in this. Story was flat and unengaging, acting was forced and unbelievable, and didn't stay true to what my experience of the Hitman games was. They could have just called it the Bourne Assassination and no one would have noticed. Utterly disposable and interchangeable with any other movie ever, the license was just tacked on. Will watch both of those movies tonight/tomorrow/before I sleep next.

Fletch and Real Genius ? ? ? ? Those are things you NEED to see, and the Fletch sequel. Top Secret too. That Employee Of The Month has Steve Zahn in it. YAY! I'll watch any piece of crap with him in it, I even rented You've Got Mail and Joyride to see Zahn. Regardless, Employee Of The Month is a great movie without him. Usual Suspects is probbly my fav film of all time, I've seen it easily 20 times. Tao oF Steve = good indie. Dazed and Confused is iconic, can't miss it. The Sting, actually really nouveau film making, for it's time. The Grifters is a great film that I haven't heard anyone mention in 10 years.

SEARCHING FOR BOBBY FISHER.
As much as I passionately love many of the movies on your list, there is a big chance you will not love them as much as the people that reccommended them to you. Some of them are older and may not work for you now, some of 'em you need to love the genre...etc.-- BUT, Searching for Bobby Fisher is HARD, its freaking DIFFICULT to NOT LIKE. And it's written and directe by the guy who just wrote American Gangster, if you happened to have just seen it among many other wonderful movies (like Shindler's List). THEN pick up Goodfellas, also a really hard one to not enjoy. THEN get into the more, have to have a taste for it, stuff... |
