Default Two Movie Saturday Night (Cloverfield and Meet the Spartans)

Tonight, some friends of mine were going to see Meet the Spartans but dinner ran late and we had to wait until the next showing at 9:45 PM. To kill some time, we decided to watch Cloverfield first and then go to Meet the Spartans. Cloverfield was as awesome as the guys said on the show and so I am not going to go much more into that movie. Now, first off, I should explain I am a huge fan of spoof movies. Airplane is easily in my top 5 comedies of all time. That being said, Meet the Spartans had funny moments, but overall, I was kind of disappointed. Almost all of the major jokes were referenced in the trailer in some way or another. I think there have been much better spoof movies recently, especially Scare Movie 3. I was just wondering if anybody else saw this and what their thoughts were of this movie.

i like good spoof movies. things like airplane and naked gun. the spoof movie where the idea is to spoof a movie genre. but movies like meet the spatrtans always do topical humor....which is tired when you first hear it.....and is worst when the movie comes out months later.

good spoof: the orignal Casino Royall and the Kentuckey Fried Movie

The sad thing about a lot of these new spoof movies is that most of them since Scary Movie 3 have been done by Leslie Nielsen's team. I don't know what happened to the spoof genre in the last 10 years, but movies like Airplane have just fallen to the wayside. The sad thing is that most people walk out of those movies thinking that they really aren't that funny, or they are total crap. I'm all up for completely over the top comedy, but it might be time to stop using the whole "lets make fun of pop stars and bad tv" type comedy.

As far as Cloverfield goes, I loved it

Movies like Meet the Spartans combined with things like Hannah Montanna are what's killing society.

Farce spoofs at one time could be funny then we got the internet and youtube which wore the jokes out and by the time the spoof film comes out the jokes are old and no longer funny.

I suggest you ditch your friends.

If they want to see MEET THE SPARTANS they may be infecting you with their stupidity.

Here's the plot of all of those horrible spoof movies:
Reference (haha, I saw Spider-Man 3, haha)
Reference (haha, I saw Transformers, haha)
repeat till everyone in the theater loses the will to live.

Like everyone else said, I think you could get a pretty good idea from the trailer that this spoof was going to be absolutely terrible. Just like Date Movie, Epic Movie, and now I hear they're coming out with Superhero Movie. Ugh. What crap.

Frankly, you know what the best spoof movies of the last ten years have been? Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Those films did something brand new with the spoof genre, and for the first time actually gave you a story you cared about, instead of a thin plot to hang jokes onto. That was fin in the beginning (Airplane! and Naked Gun are classics), but now they've devolved into something completely stupid.
