Rev3 IRC

Hey guys,

Some of you already know that I'm the one who started the Totally Rad Show IRC chatroom. For those of you that don't...well, now you do.

Anyway, the other network admins and I on Zone-9 have been considering forming some new channels for other Rev3 shows, and I'd like to know, what channel would you most like to see? A digg/diggnation channel is already in the works, and our TCL guru is whipping together some slick bot scripts that use the digg API. But we are also considering rooms for Systm, Tekzilla, popSiren and possibly a general rev3 chatroom.

I'd love to know what you all think, and what you'd like to see, be it what channels you'd like us to start, what functionality you'd like built-in to the channels, anything and everything you can think of. And we at Zone-9 will try our best to set it up.

'Till then, you all are more than welcome to check out the TRS room on z9, it's become pretty populous since I started it last July.

I'd really like to see a Systm channel, just because it would give people a place for people to come and ask for quick advice on any projects that they are working on, besides going on the forums.

It would be interesting to see a Diggnation IRC and Systm too. Like Smith said, it would be nice for people to just come in and talk about DIY stuff, advice, quick tips and such.

IRC chat embedded onto the show/stream, or a "stand-alone" thing?


I'd say Tekzilla and Systm. I'm kind of a tech-savvy person.
I've blown up motherboard, lid up ram, disassembled watches, then putting them back togeather, later noticing that I've left a few things on the table (clock still working today!)

I've soldered and done a lot of crazy shit with Windows Vista drivers.

I'll be glad to give you my services =)

I like your way of thinking, and this will be something apart from the show...that is to say it won't be like Chris Pirillo does. it's a normal everyday IRC channel, with some cool stuff thrown into the channel bot that will relate to the show in question....so for example, a digg room would have a bot that would give you the top 10 digg stories from the section of the site of your choice, among other functions.

Just a little update guys...

I'd like to note that we will be looking for channel ops for whatever channels we end up setting up...so feel free to PM either me or etos with your request...we'll be looking for about 5 or 6 ops per channel to start. And the top three on the poll at the end of this month will be the channels we end up sticking with for now...however the poll will be ongoing and as numbers change, you'll see other rooms going up and more opportunities to become an op on the aforementioned channels.

Ballot(s) cast. I'd think the techier shows (Systm/Tekzilla) would probably be able to support a decent room. Not that the other shows won't, just that that's been my experience with other channels in the past.

TRS is certainly hoppin'.

Wow, nice to see people actually responding to the thread AND voting on the poll!! Due to the already large demand for a digg/Diggnation/Digg Reel room, We have constructed a room already for you all to join, and have built a bot that will allow you to grab news feeds from your favourite parts of digg. This functionality is just the first in a long list of things we have planned. We're looking to eventually include functionality which will allow people to search the digg profile pages of any user active on the channel, and as well, allow you to grab download links for the latest episodes of Diggnation and The Digg Reel.

The room name is #diggnation, and as usual, it's on irc.zone-9.net
(note to firefox users: if you install the chatzilla extension, you can auto-connect to this network by clicking the link in my signature and typing /join #diggnation to join the room)

I figured I would bump this, we now have on irc.zone-9.net channels for: popSiren, Tekzilla, Systm, and Diggnation.
