Default Option/Alt Problem

Whenever Bert is doing a Render>Clouds, and he wants to increase the contrast, he holds down Option/Alt. Also, when he wants to flatten all the visible layers into one, and keep the original layers seperate, he also holds down Option/Alt. The problem is, when I do this, pressing Option/Alt makes the menu close. For example, when I am trying to flatten the layers and keep the original, I have to select the layers that I want to merge, duplicate them, hide all other layers and merge visible layers. For the clouds, I have to do regular clouds, and edit them in the levels. Does anyone know why this is? Is it a setting on my computer?I use a PC, and I thought that might be the problem, but that's just a guess.

I could never tell with the higher contrast clouds thing but when I want to do the layers thing I just create a new layer and go to Image and Apply Image...

I think he did it once in one of his lessons but what Apply Image does is applies all visible layers to the selected layer. I love using this as I HATE destroying layers I previously worked on. Usually if he says merge down, I just do the apply image thing and hide the originals and stick them in a folder labeled originals or something.

the proper and sometimes confusing sequence to do that is

1: clic on the layer options or filter and hold down the mouse button
2: then press alt and move over to the option you want
3: then release the mouse button.

Ahhhh that makes so much more sense. You need to click and hold, then press alt, then let go of the mouse.

You can also hold alt. Click and hold down on the menu, scroll over the option you want and release the mouse button.
