Thats a great point. All the gear you buy *should* be Vista READY, but those graphics cards are going to kill you. I'd almost go as far as saying just run with the onbard graphics until mid next year after all the new cards come out, then pick up a Vista capable card (or two and go SLI) then.

Good call, clearly moving the thread has illuminated the entire enterprise.

$$$ constraints would help alot. As with anything else it greatly determines what you should buy.

on the cheap, i'd recommend a core 2 duo e6300 or e6400. along with a cheap p965chipset board or 975x board.

if your looking for a bit more high end. the nvidia 680i chipset boards should be hitting retail real soon.(perhaps they already have, they just got announced a few days ago) These boards overclock real nicely and natively support Nvidia SLI.

Video card wise, without knowing your budget I couldn't begin to speculate. Obviously if you want the best, go with any variety of the 8800gtx.

Maybe the person who started this thread wanted to ask the people he knows and interacts with most often? A lot of people from the Geekdrome forum only hang out there and not in the other areas of the Rev3 forum.

My question is why do you have such a chip on your shoulder about doing your job? You have such antagonism in your post. Even your name describes that people would be willing to punch you in the mouth because of that chip on your shoulder. You must be a tough guy. Don't hurt me.

Absolutely avoid them, NewEgg is the way to go. I lost 1/4" of my already balding hairline dealing with Tiger...

And good point on the DX10 thing - Hang back a while (maybe onboard video?) until the dx10 cards start coming down.

Take a serious look into RAID0 (you'll find talk about it on the overclockersclub forums), make friends with names like "barracuda and raptor", and follow the power supply advice!!!

MOBO - get an Nvidia chipset on your mobo. You'll feel warm and fuzzy inside.

And finally, STAY COOOOOL brotha.

For the record, I would have moved the thread too. I know that the logic really is WAY OUT THERE, but building a computer how to belongs in the HARDWARE SECTION. We cannot have everything all sloppy now can we children?

kids....
