i think countdown proved that GMo's joker will disappear as soon as he stops writing batman. They completely ignored his reinvention of the character at the beginning of Countdown. Editorial (both DC and Marvel) tend to love what Morrison does for a book's sales but they get rid of all his original concepts the minute he's out the door (remember X-Men?)

I'm just wondering how this arc will affect Detective and Trinity. Both seem to rely on Bruce as Batman, and Dini is doing some great things in his book that I would hate to see cut short.

As to if the Joker stuff was a dream or not.

I took it as Joker taking an ink blot test and that whole thing with the TV Reporter and the dead Bat gang was what he thought of when he looked at one of the ink blots. It was his fantasy but he tells the Shrink that he was thinking of flowers. Next the lights go out and the Black Glove come in and ask him if he wants to come to the death of batman party and when the lights come back on he has killed the shrink and says he's in.

Someone mentioned a while back that they feel the Joker's madness should come from his mind more than his dress. I agree, but I think this is just showing us the full extent of his madness.

Those who read the prose issue of Batman will remember that this reinvention of the joker is supposed to have him teetering over the edge. Most batshit Joker since Arkham Asylum (the book). Changing his look and outfit just shows that he has changed more radically than ever, and if his dress won't hold to his past conventions his dress won't either. At least that is how I see it.

This is exactly what happened. We see Joker's newly idealized self and the bodies of Dick Grayson, Tim Drake and Commish Gordon. Obviously Joker did not kill them all. In the next series of panels, we see Joker in a typical straight jacket.

Then the lights go out. Spooky.
