Default What were they thinking?

I thought this new segment was pretty hilarious, and I'm looking forward to more in the future.

Anyway, I thought it might be neat to see if anyone else has some ideas for a "What were they thinking?" contender.

Mine would be the Spider-Mobile. I'd love to know what Marvel was thinking with that. It was an idea so bad that even Spider-Man himself made fun of it.

SuperPro

Electric Superman ( it wasn't so bad but they had to know people would hate it)

Every panel of that screams, "Marketing says we need to work some toys and accessories into the book... so stupid. How am I gonna... you know, I'll just use it for the story. Marketing people give him this accessory, and it's stupid. Then it falls in a lake and I never have to write it-- I mean, he never has to drive it again."

I am fascinated by the extent to which the writers' real lives seep into licensed characters. Like, you read issues where Spider-Man sees Spidey merchandise and thinks, "I don't make a dime off of that stuff!" and as an adult you realize, "Oh: Pete is the creators. I get it." In the nineties, when Marvel was having serious financial trouble, apparently the Daily Bugle had some serious financial trouble. I loves me some subtext.

You think that's bad? Well, what possible use could Superman have for this?

My mother bought me some back issues for Christmas two years ago. One of them was an issue of Spider-Man.

"It says it is the first appearance of the Spider-Mobile, do you think it is worth something?"

Yikes! Here I thought the Spider-Mobile was terrible. I think the Supermobile might just take the cake.

I suppose there should be some honourable mention given to the Fantasticar Mark 1.

Hmm, things are getting a bit vehicle-centric.

Let's see what else there is. Hmm, we have Black Punisher. How about...um, I don't know...maybe Animal Vegetable, Mineral Man?

Bruce Banner almost gets gang raped in the shower at the YMCA. Its from "The Hulk" magazine #23 written by Jim Shooter.

Really. I thought this one was a fake at first but found some articles about it. Its kind of like one of those shower scenes in Oz but this is the YMCA not a federal penitentiary (not that rape is acceptable in any situation). It just seems to strike me as a "what were they thinking" moment.
I know the Marvel mag line was made for and marketed to an adult audience. I doubt we would see this scene with one of Marvels figurehead characters.
