I recently discovered Scam School, and have been hooked ever since.
When I came across the "Dark Lord of the Scam" episode, an old trick came to mind when I saw the Polish Rocket presentation. In the video it is done with napkins that burn all the way down to the table and seemingly remain there for a few moments before taking flight. The better variation that I know is using tea bags instead of napkins. You simply cut open the tea bag, discard the contents, form it into a cylinder, place it onto an even surface, then just light it on top. The huge advantage of the tea bag is that it takes flight before the flame reaches the bottom, and therefore can be done on any surface (a white table cloth has always been my favorite) For the performance part of the illusion, an elaborate story can be made up about the polish space program reverse engineering a rocket (cut off tag - we don't need instructions; pour out "black powder" - that stuff is dangerous: etc.) Some coin retrieval method might also be feasible, like getting a coin from the beneath the base of the "rocket" without moving it by hand. I'll leave the imagination to Brian :-) It goes without saying that I think Schwood is doing a great job, and I'll get back to catching up on all the old episodes! |
