Default System Can't Detect newly bought 8600GT, pls help

I bought Palit 8400 GS 512 MB DDR2 card.
But when i inserted it into the PCI E slot and booted the system it wasn't getting detected.
I dont know whats the problem could be.There wasn't any power connector on the card as it was mentioned that card will drive the power from the slot itself.

I have gone through some forums and i came to know that 8400Gs has some problems with system as it doesnt get easily detected.
I checked the driver version on CD, it was 169.32. But i was not able to install as system gave me message that there aren't any hardware in the system for these drivers..????

Please help me what should i do..???

My PC config:
Mo: ASUS-P5GZ MX
Pro: Pentium D (2.8GHz)

RAM:1 GB DDR2 533
Monitor: 17 " TFT LCD(Response time 8ms)
PSU: 450 Watt

Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks..

Please define "not detected".

To me "not detected" means no post screen and monitor stays in stand by.

So, when you press the power button, nothing happens?

Have you checked to see if you have connected your vga/dvi cable to the graphics card? (Many, many of my friends forget)

Have you tried disconnecting the cd-rom and the second hard drive (if you have a second) just to see if it works? More power goes to the gpu instead of that.

Are you sure you didn't fry your card with static electricity?

Don't forget to ground yourself!

If you have a SLi/Crossfire board, try the graphics card in a different slot.

I have done all of what u have said the correct way..but the problem still perists.
My System doesn't detect the hardware. In the Add New Hardware Options in the control panel there's no option for installing the card. But instaed all the time whan i reboot the system i get a message to install my internal graphics memory (Intel onboard) which i uninstalled earlier inorder to install the vga/dvi card driver.

I've even updated my BIOS,have the latest driver for the GPU but noyhing ever happens...
Plz. help guys...!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ehm. Google driver cleaner and remove the drivers. It'll remove the bullshit drivers that nVidia/intel/amds uninstaller wont remove which may sometimes cause issues with new cards.

You system has detected the card, because it's using standard drivers. 640x480 is a bitch, yeah.

Download new drivers.

But my suggestion is plug in your old card, go to hard ware management and right click on the graphics card; select uninstall. Reboot. Run driver cleaner (select software that it needs to remove). Shut down! Now, plug in the new card. Everything should work fine now.

Question I am having the EXACT same problem - Help!

Hmm i have just looked into the PSU requirements of the EN8600GT MAGIC and it appears to require a 350w 12v 22amp PSU. The a6120a comes with a 300w 12v 19a. Anyone know if this could be the problem for sure or not? Upon other findings on the PSU subject I have discovered that the 8600GT has a tendancy to overheat rather than to not run. The cooling fan on mine also has power just not detected by windows and no VGA or DVI output (tried to change bios to PCI-E output but then i got no video output from either of them and had to reset my BiOS! I have a 500W PSU on the way in the post which will be here in 2 days to see if that is the cause. If anyone can offer any assistance as to what actions / procedures I may attempt to resolve the issue at hand. I will post to advise what happens when the PSU gets here although I have my doubts from past experiences but this is the only issue other than the card being faulty which is a big pain as I live rurarly and the PC shop isn't just around the corner from me!
