Default Best Take on a Classic Myth

I am a huge fan of Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files because of the way it reimagines the mythology of faeries and magic. I also really like the way Stargate SG-1 plays with Egyptian, Norse, and now Arthurian myth.

So I want to know: What are some good new twists on classic tales? (It could be from movies, TV, comics, or books.) Vampires, werewolves, the Phoenix, Cerberus, Titans, whatever! Any mythology will do.

Edit: I just got the best idea. Somebody needs to take Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung and turn it into a three and a half hour super-high budget movie. That story just defines epic.

If you think about it, Superman seems to be a take on the Hercules myth... a god among men, trying to do what's right... maybe, maybe not...

How about Howard the Duck. That's a great story. A Duck amongst men.

I love Howard the Duck, but I don't see how giant space scorpions being pulled across the galaxy by a telescope fits into any kind of classic mythology.

The transformation is complete. I am now a dark overlord of the universe.

I gotta say harry potter. *puts a dollar in the gay bucket* but, no seriously it's a great reimagining of all those magic stories and stuff.

Maybe. Hercules wasn't a do-gooder like Superman though. Dispite Kevin Sorbo, Hercules was also not very bright.

i am reading PREACHER and it is a great take on a lot of different myths. angels, demon, the hero's journey, vampires and all that good stuff.

it is also a great take on the western genre itself...which is full of myths and tall tales.
