Lightbulb For Consideration....

More and more, I personally hear alot of people really expressing a desired to see a return of Ctrl+Alt+Chicken, and while I fully realize each program of the network does need to show the ability to pull it's own weight with the standard Rev3 shows have been produced and distributed recently, I want to present an argument for a possible return and revamp for the CAC, as well as talk some of the issues that I feel made the show slightly weaker to the rest of Rev3's lineup and ways to address each.

1) The Need
I am going to be completely honest about this. I suck at cooking. Some things that can seem relatively simple and I can almost treat it as a challenge to find a way to screw it up. I've burned bacon, I've burned ramen (...yes, you read that right). I remember specifically how I called my best friend about how proud of myself I was the first time I cooked hamburger for Hamburger Helper. To be honest, cooking shows in general I'll watch sometimes, but they always seem too lofty or fancy for me to even attempt. Secondly, today alot of people are looking to find ways to save money with gas and food prices going up. I eat Wendy's almost daily. Lunch breaks I usually only have enough time to go to McD's, Dairy Queen, or the nearby gas station. And while I'm not obese, it's not the most healthy diet and after adding it up it's alot of wasted money that could be used more productively and efficiently by preparing my own meals. And when we have a show like CAC, it feels more like family teaching you to cook simple things, as well as talking about it in a way that this particular audience can relate to it.

2) The Issues and Possible Solutions
Now I want to talk about some of the things that at least I feel made the show alittle weaker and ways that can be changed. These are again only thing that in my perspective, going back through the archives, really held the show back.

A) Pacing

There did seem to be alot of points in which things looked like they were just being made up as they go along. This works fine on shows like Diggnation, TRS, etc. but when you're making something like on Systm, it feels like wasted airtime getting stuff from the frig or rechecking recipes.
--Solution: Tighter editing would probably be one of the most productive solutions for the show in general. A touch more pre-planning for each show I feel could go a long way. Rehearsing recipes, product placement, etc. In my own experience the first time you cook something is ALWAYS the worst. So rehearsing new recipes off-camera once or twice as well as cutting some of the added preparation time could make the show abit more polished.

B) What's in the pot?
I mentioned this before as a suggestion for Systm. The need for an overhead camera angle is absolutely necessary to truly portray what's going on without putting too much strain on the on-air talent to show it, be it using an over head mounted camera or a mirrored shot. This is something that helps the viewer see what's being cooked and what it's supposed to look like at different stages of production and can be immensely helpful to the viewer.

C) User Submitted Recipes
I don't think I have to go too far into this idea, but it bares mentioning at least. Getting recipes for other Rev3 hosts and producers would be awesome as well (after seeing the stuff Glenn's girlfriend makes for his lunch on the Gazette, I'd really like to see her on the show =P)

I know in the end it is a corporate decision, but I do hope some of these ideas are taken into consideration. Thanks guys and keep up the good work.

You need Good Eats. Recipes are simple. They go through the hardware (tools) and software (ingredients) you need to do the job. You learn new techniques.

Agreed, I just saw a few episodes of it and it really is great.

Ah, I miss that show... I live in Japan now and they obviously don't show it here.

True and I have been torrenting a lot of American shows but that one just seems like it wouldn't be the same. I have no idea why, that's just how I feel about it.
