Default What is a good cheap ink-efficient printer?

I have gone through many printers, HP and Epson mostly. I have an Epson multifunction printer at the moment that is horrible in so many ways.

What I am looking for is a printer for very basic printing, NO PHOTOS, just black and white documents and the occasional Google Map. Print quality is not a factor, and really neither is speed. I'm looking for ink and cost efficiency. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I use Epson CX4600 for scanning and an Epson R340 for Photos and DVD/CD's and buy ink CHEAPLY at eforcity.com

I also bought the Mrs an HP 2600N Network enabled Color Laserjet for making invitations and such. Gorgeous Prints but PRICEY to feed ;-)

I just bought the 4 Toner Carts, $211 and that was after market Toner, the HP Toners are $82 or so each!

O:nen ki' wahi' Bye for now

Thanks for the reply, Kwiter! Eforcity.com looks like a great site for getting a full set of ink much more cheaply than usual. Thanks!

The question remains open, though on the printers themselves. Does anyone have any insight on really cost-efficient printers for mostly black-and-white text-only printing?

Does the Epson R340 fit this description? [edit] No, as it is a photo printer only. [/edit]

A laser printer - What a lovely suggestion, nextgenxbox. Can you recommend any models in particular that have cheap and efficient toners?

Thanks.

I own the SAMSUNG ML-2510 and have no complaints at all. The ink will last you a loooooooooooooooooooong time... 1000s of pages. Heh.

There are tons of others... just search and read the customer reviews.

Here's one on sale, a Brother, on Amazon:

Search around Amazon, Best Buy, Circuit City etc... with the keywords: "Laser Printer"

I just bought a used (like new) SAMSUNG ML-2510 online for $86 with a new toner cartridge in it. I'll let everyone know how well it performs.

Thanks for the advice!

Ink jets are all a rip-off.

The SAMSUNG ML-2510 arrived in the mail yesterday evening. I'll be hooking it up later today and will report back on its efficiency compared to my current Epson multi-function ink-jet printer. I'm wondering if I'll get anywhere close to the 3,000 pages from one toner cartridge as advertised.

Just a quick reply to mention that I'm loving the printer so far. The prints are great quality and fast. It's a little loud during printing, but for the benefits, I have no problem with that.
