When I saw the show post, I thought that this was going to be the first "phoned in" episode of Scam School. "Oh boy, this looks like a dime-store gag like disappearing ink or fake poo."

But after Brian explained that NOT telling people the scam would be more fun than telling, it made so much sense. That's the fun, having people start to point, stare, and even make bets behind your back. I may have someone try it this weekend at a party.

BTW - If you need to borrow a cigarette or lighter to pull the gag, putting down a smoker to their face is not the way to say thank you. I'm just sayin...

sorry.. but already know how it's done... I did a google search for Bar tricks when saw the 1st Scam School and this trick was already on 90% of the results (posibbly exaggerated).
Whats next? "reburn" a match? where you take a magic marker and color a match black and pretend to re-ignite it?

sorry if abit too negative but I look foreward to Scam School SOOO much every week.. and to see something that is one of the 1st few tricks on barbet websites is abit disappointing.

Altho I'm sure you dont wanna let your good stuff go and are willing to make a vid showing stuff thats already out there...
NIM and the "quarters in a diamond into a str8 line" stuff was new, deceptively simple and altho hasnt won me free drinks (I rarely go to bars) but has allowed me to chill at a party and have others have to run around to coolers, BBQs etc and fetch me food and drinks as their losing wagers. (totally sweet).
I even had to break up a fight, when doing NIM, when one brother was trying to tell another brother what matches to get... "WTF? You shoulda grabbed 1 match there!!!".. "No you D**khead then he'da grabbed 2 matches" etc... LOL

Wondered when this ep was coming been over a month since ya posted that long ash pic on twitter...If you smoke Natural American Spirits you can long ash with out a needle or anything do to them being packed tight but you have to move a tad slower than normal and make no sudden moves or it breaks.


umm why complain about a trick just because it has been done before? I personally have seen almost all these tricks before. A few I haven't but I don't complain about the ones i know about.

Well, I've known about this one for a while, but I don't smoke. Anyways, I think it would have been better if you made a bet with them, see who can make the longest ash without it breaking. You could even borrow a cig from them and slip in the needle when they don't notice. Pretend to balance it when you do it, boom! Another episode for free drinks.

My grandmother was a smoker until the day she died and she had a way cooler way of smoking a cigarette...

Her hands shook constantly but she would light a cigarette and then just let the ash grow until she got to the filter and then in one practised movement, she would snuff it out. She had become so used to smoking that even though she was in her 80s and her hands never stopped shaking, she never once ashed mid-cigarette. No needles here since the cigarette crumpled when she snuffed it out at the end.

I remember having long chats with her on various subjects, only half listening because I was mesmerized by that ash.

This trick is a pale imitation of that. Not only can you burn yourself on the hot needle if the end strays from the center of the filter but you could do some damage to yourself with a hot needle if you forget and try to snuff the cigarette out when you are done.

I really like this show but this episode was far below the standard set by other episodes.

I hated how he was putting down the smokers, buy anyway, did anyone notice the blond girl in the background? She was also on the "Clever Match Trick Scores Free Drinks" episode. Weird...
