First of all, I love "popSiren" and Revision3 to bits (and bytes).
But I'm curious and have a question... Why is it that all of the hip web2.0-people at "popSiren" and basically every other Revision3-show and tech-vidcast on the planet only seem to listen to weak-voiced shoegazer indie-rock and "ooooh-we're-so-quirky-and-special" type music? I just don't get it. Is this the only kind of music available in San Fransisco or what? I'm a techie and total internet-dork myself but I hate that crap. I need some sort of explanation to this phenomenon or I will go insane. |

Second, I imagine (and can only imagine, because its been thirty years since I was able to be first on the scene with any new music) that the result tends to follow from the serendipity of the search. People are likely to stumble over new bands on the Facebook and MySpace pages of the people to whom they are linked--who will more than likely be people who approximate their tastes (not always, but it improves the odds). It's kind of like people who spend their days on social networking software are more likely to stumble upon new social networking software. I will just bet though that the WofPS are open to suggestions. Whatcha got? |

We can't fault people for their taste in music. People like what they like, whether it's because that's what all their friends listen to, or because they genuinely like it.

"Whats up with all the indie crap" ... asks the guy whose only other post is saying that he is listening to Carcass - which is indie (ie indepenedent, not affiliated with a major label, underground) at the other end of the spectrum.

I think a lot of the indie stuff is going to come and go and have no real lasting impact, but it excites me that people are trying new things and trying to promote new music. It's so much more interesting than the same old "safe" stuff that we get on Top 40 radio stations.

Also, is anyone else tired of seeing all the Muxtape and Muxtape-like services they do for the bites and on the show. No offense, but even if I liked that kind of service, it's a bit of overkill.

Why would people watching for sure not like it?
There are lots of people who are growing increasingly tired of commercial radio and it's always a problem to find new styles and bands to listen to, popSiren does a great job exposing new bands. Sure I haven't liked everything I've heard but I've picked up a few great new acts because of Heather and Sarah |

I never said everyone wouldn't like it, just that there will be people watching that won't. Sorry, I did state that a bit vaguely, but basically Music is one of the few areas where you can always guarantee that they will have viewers that completely disagree with them.
tokenuser, XLR8R TV is about musicians, artists, etc. It's not really solely about music, in the sense of Popsiren's music sections. And I think that is one of the reasons XLR8R TV works as a show, because it isn't about a bunch of guys sitting around talking about music they like. It's about guys getting out there and getting involved with music and musicians they like.

Having a show of the music segments extracted from popsiren would be about as entertaining as TRL.
