I have an older Dell Dimension 2400 that doesn't have PCI-E, only standard PCI. My question is will this video card: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....2170299 64768 allow me to run newer games at least at the lowest resolutions? I'm not looking for the best graphics out there, just something that can at least run it for the next 6 months while I save up money to buy a new PC.

A quick search at Newegg shows NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS cards that are PCI-E not old fashioned PCI. The folks at Best Buy who write those ads probably don't know the difference between PCI and PCI-E.
Several things that raised red flags: * 512MB GDDR2 memory * DirectX 10-compatible GPU * 1 dual-link DVI-I HDCP-compliant connector, |

Ok what about this card? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....2038150 34315
I know this one is regular PCI for sure, you can see it in the upper right hand corner of the box. Will I be able to run newer games at the lowest graphics settings with this? I'm also running a 2.5 GHz processor and 2 GBs of ram as well. |

I don't think you'll be able to run newer games like BioShock with this card. I think the Orange Box type games might work on it. I personally wouldn't drop $130 on an outdated video card for an outdated interface for an old PC.
You can buy a much faster PCI-E card for half the price on newegg. I'd keep the $130 and save up more, until you get $300-$400 to buy a modern fast machine from parts off of newegg. modern mobo with pci-e, sli, faster ram, faster cpu, etc.. |
