Favorite 3 are Jones, Stewart's (in a bottle is good but even better at their restaurant), and Barq's for the 12-pack of cans.

EDIT: Added links, and apparently there is only one Stewart's restaurant. But it's damn good.

My personal favorite is Henry Weinhard's root beer. It's delicious stuff but you can only find it on the west coast. The company also makes normal beer which I've never tried(they don't sell it around southern California where I live) but the root beer is amazing. It's super rich and creamy with just a little spice to it. It's actually so rich that when you take a sip you have to be really careful or it will start foaming up, so it's best to have it when it's really cold. They also make a really good vanilla cream soda that I love but for a lot of people it's a love/hate sort of deal because it's a lot different than other vanilla cream sodas. The orange cream soda is also amazing and really is the soda embodiment of a creamsicle. So if you live on the west coast I would really recommend picking up a six pack of the root beer. They're pretty easy to find in most grocery stores and Bevmo carries them as well.

To elaborate, I will drink any old root beer, but the smooth, clean taste of cream soda is much more appealing to me. Jones cream soda is probably my favorite but a 12 pack of A&W will do too.

I registered her just for this thread.

I highly recommend Sprecher's Root Beer, it is fire brewed with honey to give it a smooth, rich flavor that is second to none. I also highly recommend their Cream Soda, it is brewed with pure Wisconsin honey and pure vanilla, it is the creamiest Cream Soda I have ever tasted. And while you're at it, try their Puma Kola, Ginger Ale and Ravin' Red, they're extremely delicious sodas that you just have to try. Check out Sprecher here: http://www.sprecherbrewery.com/soda.php

Another root beer that is awesome is Point Premium Root Beer. While in Milwaukee a couple weeks ago I sampled the brew, and it is another delicious beverage, those guys in Milwaukee know exactly what they're doing when they make sodas. I haven't had any of their other sodas yet though. Check it out here: http://www.pointbeer.com/root_beer.php

Other brands that are delicious that I can't find webpages for are Sioux City (I recommend the root beer, cream soda, birch beer, and sasparilla), Hank's, and Natural Brew, you ca'n't go wrong with any of them.

Keep this going.

I'm appreciating all of the input---we are planning on a fun full featuring root beer episode.

I've had the Sprecher's orange cream (I didn't know the brewery until I checked the website and saw the familiar label) but I haven't had any of their other stuff, so I'll have to check it out. The orange cream is REALLY smooth. It's a bit too sweet in my opinion, but I guess that's why it's called the orange dream. I really have to go out and drink more root beers. The Sioux City lineup is nice mostly because they have the unusual stuff like Sasparilla, but I don't think any of their drinks really stand out in an amazing way.
