Default Shiny happy ponies!

Does anyone know the full backstory behind this joke? I remember when it first cropped up on DL.TV. It had something to do with an e-mail someone had sent in. I don't remember Pat, or Robert ever explaining the full details of that e-mail. Boy oh boy did that in joke ever stick though.

I figure it might have been explained once on the DL.TV forum, but there always seemed to be too many hoops that needed jumping through in order to get there.

Anyway, can anyone (perhaps Pat, or Roger) explain the deal behind the "oh my god; ponies!" joke?

If i recall, it was none of the above.
In 2006, Slashdot (the original tech news site) changed their site theme to be pink and girly with ponies and stuff...and the name of the theme: "OMG! PONIES!" It just kind of stuck in geek culture since then.
