Because we know how to pronounce it correctly

While I admit the names for Canada and other countries (and while its been run by Bush and his maggo...er...minions, I've had some choice names for my own US too) can be humorous, they probably aren't a good idea on an internationally available show that isn't (usually) a comedy. I can't say as I blame the international folks for being a bit insulted.

Not a problem there either...we know the correct way to say "soldier" too. That's not the right term to use anyway. When ever one speaks to someone holding a loaded firearm, the correct term is "sir"...as in "yes, sir!"

Wait, what? Patrick never insulted Canada. Is this because Patrick tends to say "Canadia"? He didnt actually say "retarded little cousin", right?

I dont understand why you're taking offense to "canadia". It's a play on the word, and not offensive in the least bit. I wouldn't be offended if you said "cal-iforn-eye-ay".

I think saying "All americans think they're better than everyone" is WAY more insulting. Personally, I'm insulted by that. There are people who do, yes, but they're usually the people who haven't travelled outside their borders, and there are just as many (for example) Australians who think Australia is the best country ever.

Especially in the last 8 years, I think the notion that Americans are braggadocious has declined A LOT. We know we suck right now, dont worry.

Oh, and there is no right or wrong way to pronounce things like "solder". It's regional, and a silly thing to argue about. You're implying right there that "my country's way is the only way".

Okay. Wait. So what exactly did Patrick say? I responded more to computoman than anything else.

I thought he said "retard cousins". I haven't had time to catch up on my podcasts for the past two weeks.

Argue? What? Really my only intentiion behind the dropped l in solder thing was some cross-transatlantic ribbing over our different dialects.

Wow, the maturity level in this thread is at an all-time low.

As far as what computoman said, he's right whether you like it or not. You're seriously going to complain over a mispronunciation (purposeful or not) when there are people in some parts of the world being tortured for looking a certain way. Give me a freakin break. Is this _really_ what people are complaining about nowadays? No one is holier than thou, no one is better than anyone else, there are just some people in the world who ACTUALLY have a sense of humor. I'm Polish; do I get mad when people tell Polish jokes? No, cause most of the time they're funny.

Bottom line, grow up people.

And for the record, Patrick, I always say Canadia. I'm pretty sure you stole that from me

Hold the phone and stop the presses. This is all because he said "Canadia"?

I was reading a manual on Sendmail while I was watching Systm this week. I thought, judging by this thread, that he said something bad like "People's Republic of Canukistan" or something like that, and I just missed it while banging my head on the desk from configuring Sendmail.

If "Canadia" was all it was, I take back what I said earlier...except for the part about pronouncing "solder" and "soldier".

As a Canadian who knows plenty of other Canadians, including Canadian Rev3 viewers, I can say the OP is blowing this out of proportion. Even I call it Canadia when speaking with American friends. It is just being playful. No more harm done than an igloo or maple syrup joke. You just need to calm down a bit.
