Default Movies: J.J.Abrams Star Trek

Here's a new casting rumour for you...

Quote:
E! Online column Watch With Kristin reported a rumor that Heroes villain Zachary Quinto is close to sealing a deal to play Spock in J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek movie.

An anonymous source told the site that Quinto's (Sylar) contract is with the business affairs team at Paramount, which is producing the film, and only requires final signoff by a lawyer.

Abrams and his team have declined to comment on casting or storylines of the top-secret Star Trek, which is widely expected to reboot the franchise. Paramount will be unveiling details about the movie at Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 26.

Wow sylar huh. I think he could pull it off. His role in heroes melds perfectly with a young spock. Looking good, i always worry about prequels and enterprise was weak in my opinion.

Well, ill be keeping a eye on it from now on, thnx for the heads up.

Enterprise was ruined from the start. That god awful theme song made us cringe, and then the producers made it their goal to re-invent canon. Still, it had it's moments... like the Doom inspired episode with the Vulcans.... send more Brains.

Hey there.

While I do look forward to seeing this flick and hope that it's good fun... It does make me sad that it is essentialy yet another tarted up remake.

We have a young filmmaker who seems to be white hot right now. Coming out of TV and working with two hot writers and pretty much all they've done in movies so far is sequels and remakes...

I don't know if you can blame the filmmakers for lack of imagination or blame the "money" guys for only allowing them to go with the safe(er) bet... But how much better would it be if Abrams and co created a brand new franchise. With some new iconic characters for our generation. Rather than just rehashing something that seemed to work in the past and trying to sell it to a new generation.

I don't know.. The whole thing smells of Superman Returns to me.

Where are the new Star Treks and Star Wars. Our generations TERMINATORS and ALIENS and PREDATORS.

Maybe it is just rose tinted glasses and time allows me to cherry pick the good stuff from shite of the past.. But it doesn't seem like we're creating our own Icon Heroes and Villains any more.

What are the closest we've come to in the last ten years? NEO? Can you think of many characters/films of the last 10-15 years that will mean the same to us that the Aliens and Predators and Snake Pliskins and so on mean to us now?

Despin out.

Yelchin Is Trek XI's Chekov

Anton Yelchin (Alpha Dog) is in negotiations to play Pavel Chekov, the Russian-born navigator of the USS Enterprise in J.J. Abrams' upcoming 11th installment in the Star Trek film franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Russian-born Yelchin will join Zachary Quinto (Heroes) and Leonard Nimoy, who will both play the role of Mr. Spock in the film. Casting is under way in New York and London for Kirk, Bones, Uhura, Sulu, Scotty, the film's villain and the Federation captain. Abrams, who will helm the untitled film, is expected to sign bigger-name actors for the latter two parts.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the story line is believed to chronicle the early days of the Enterprise crew during their time at Starfleet Academy.

Chekov was played by Walter Koenig on the original Star Trek TV series, and he is a key member of the Enterprise crew.

The film is scheduled to open on Dec. 25, 2008.
I can't wait to be utterly disappointed with who they choose to play Kirk.

they keep saying "starting the Franchise back up" when refering to this new movie...but why? How do you start something by using characters that already exist? They are "revisiting", not starting.

If they are concerned about starting the star trek franchise back up again they need to create a new crew with new characters so they have somplace to go - giving them a future to "go where no one has gone before" and not where we've already been a 1,000 times...

Knowing none of the main characters are gonna die, that removes any sense of drama, although we knew that in the old tv show...but audiences nowadays are a bit more sophisticated than way back when...

(Batman Begins is a recent remake I can think of...but it's more about the Dark Knight and not Batman...almost two different characters)

As far as Kirk goes, any choice will be a disappointment...just like if they tried to recast Picard...any deviation from the original is gonna tarnish it, I think.

And playing such established characters, the audience won't be enjoying the characters as much as "comparing" them to the originals. That sucks.

After all this, yeah, I'll go see it.

*grin*

no one can live up to shatner. Just let it go and accept it. With that held firm in your mind I bet the guy they pick will do a fine job.

Think of it like the tranformers movie, you know its not gonna live up to the original, so move past it and accept it for what it is and you might get suprised

There are only two actors of the 21C that I think can compare to Shatner in acting ability.

1. Keanue Reeves.
2. David Carusso.

Of these, Reeves is the better choice, but no one. delivers. lines with. the. timing. of Carusso. He was definately schooled at the William Shatner School of Dramatic Dialogue Delivery.
