No man, I know how they get it up, but like...how do they do it? They're so fragile...it must be a slow and horrible process, sorta like getting a root canal...i shutter at the thought.

Dude, not all old people are fragile. My mother-in-law who is like 60, is in better shape than you probably. She runs an occasional 1/2-marathon and rides 120 miles bike races. Just stay in shape and see how far you go.

BTW - Its "shudder at the thought", not "shutter" ... unless you want to close it out of your mind.
